Should I night PT, use diapers, or Pull-Ups?

We are starting 3 Day PTing tomorrow. I've read the e-book twice and I think we're ready to go. I have a question about nighttime. I posted about this a few weeks ago, that my kids wake up very wet in the morning. I don't know if I should follow the plan in the e-book of going straight to underwear 24/7, or if we should do pull-ups, or use diapers at night. My concern with using diapers is that the kids will get confused since I will have told them they are big kids and are using underwear now. On the other hand, Pull-Ups seem so expensive for what's basically a diaper. What would you do? Or should I try to night-train them too?

I'm of the belief that kids night train in their own time. My DD was night trained when she was 32 months old and she did that on her own. I did the 3 day PT program with my DS, he was the type of the kid who held his pee even while using a diaper, so that's why I did the 3 day program. I went straight to underwear at night time because I was afraid that he would hold his pee and poo for when he got a diaper or pull up at night. What I did was get a mattress protector, chux pads and some towels and laid it down on his bed for when he had accidents at night. Usually, I just had to change him and the towel and possibly one of the chux pads, so I did not have to change the whole bed. My DS is 3.5 and DH or I still have to check on him once a night for him to pee.
I think really it's what you feel comfortable with...you could always try underwear for a week and see how they do at night with it and if you feel like a pull up would work better for them at night right now, tell them that this is special night time underwear and their goal is to keep it dry. Good luck!

FWIW, we did the 3-day method with great success in late December 2010, but did not want to attempt underwear for sleeptimes. I STILL put my kiddos in a diaper at both naptime and bedtime...it has not confused them at all. They eat their lunch with a full glass of milk about 45 minutes before naptime and sleep at least 2 hours. I do not think they would make it through nap without needing to go pee :unknw: . And I am definitely waiting for the day that they start to wake up dry in the morning before taking away their nighttime diapers (we still use Huggies Overnights).

They start preschool full-time in September, so we will be working on the naptime diaper soon...it will probably involve a little tweeking of the schedule and a greater willingness to deal with wet clothes and sheets

I used cloth trainers so that they would get used to feeling wet. They get it when their bladders are mature enough to hold it. One got it right with day time and the other took a bit of time.

we went straight to undies for night time... though we have had some wet nights... ugh.

I think if you can actually restrict the liquids before bedtime you'll have a much better chance of keeping them dry. we've gotten lax in letting not making sure that they are getting liquids in early in the day so they don't have to drink so close to bedtime and it shows... but for the main part they are trained. we do go in an hour or two after they go to bed (before we go to bed) and take them to pee. if we were to limit my ds's liquids, I'm pretty sure he'd go all night w/o peeing.

my dd can hold it like crazy during the day, but will pee at night w/o waking herself up.

sometimes I thought about putting her in a pullup for night, but like you I can't stand the though of the cost, and then we cloth diapered for over 2 yrs and I can't bring myself to use disposable now... AND my ds say "diaper" when I pull out the cloth diaper... so that's not really good... he's being mean to his sis when he says it.

    good luck w/what you pick.

We JUST finished the 3-day PT this past weekend. I would at least give it a try! Before they were both waking up wet from both naps and night time. One DD was blowing out her night diapers and had a wet bed often. But my DH wanted to stick to the rules! One of my DD's was trained day one (of course the one by DH was in charge of watching!) and since last Saturday has had a perfect record day and night. We are still working on my other DD! She still has accidents but I'm seeing progress..shes more like 50% trained. We were changing her 2-3 times a night and last night she slept 13 hours and woke up DRY! Again she isn't fully trained and we are on day 6. I told my husband that if last night was a fluke and this goes on much longer at night we will use pull-ups at night. I do believe that the body just needs to mature more for the night time to "take". Because even though she was dry all night we were still up checking her 3-4 times and taking her to the potty as recommended.

We bought 4 of these and they are awesome (but you may want to get extra blankets too since this only protects the mattress and not the other blankets in the bed from getting wet)http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3902517&prodFindSrc=rv

BTW I have used the helpdesk on the Website and she got back to me within 24-hours. I have to keep reminding myself that we are trying to do something very quickly (3-days) when most kids take a few months to get it. So even though its been 6 days and I feel like a failure in some ways...I know that 6 days is JUST 6 days. Good Luck!

We did the 3 day method when our girls were 27 months old and I wasn't ready for the night training part so I kept them in pullups for nap and bedtime. We called them 'sleeping panties' and it didn't hinder their progress at all.

I am of the same belief as Nancy in that kids will night train when they are physically ready, mine are still wet overnight and we still have a pullup and I'm okay with that. :)

Things went pretty well today. Quite a few accidents in the morning, not too many in the afternoon. Logan only had one pee accident all afternoon and then pooped in his underwear before bed. Charlotte pooped twice in the potty and peed in the potty a few times. I am really surprised because I was skeptical about how Logan would do, but he did great. They earned stickers and prizes throughout they day. They wore underwear for nap time and stayed dry! They are in underwear right now for bed, but I am pretty sure they will wet through. I have towels under them, but we'll see. I did buy some Pull-Ups if we end up needing to use them. I am okay with getting them up once to go potty before I go to bed, but I am not willing to get them up multiple times during the night and changing sheets multiple times. I am hoping for a good day tomorrow! Today went better than I thought it would.

my DD PT'ed both day and night at the same time - at 5 my DS is still in a pull up at night - he'll go up to a week being dry at night and then when we feel comfortable and let him sleep without one he'll wet the bed...the pedi said that you can't night train a child - its mostly has to do with bladder size and hormones and maturity...with boys he doesn't worry about bed wetting till they are older than 8...
