I, (16F) in my junior year of highschool, don’t know if I should go to film school after graduating highschool or immediately start my career, no college. I have always loved directing and filming, and I’ve taken a film class for the past 2 years at my highschool. It’s taught me so much and has increased my passion for film. I want to be a director so so bad! But everyone keeps saying different things. Film school will either help you get connects or be terrible and leave you in debt. Or just don’t go to college and start your career, but what if you also fail? I still have a year left to decide but I seriously need help on what to do.

-And I also thought of majoring in something else, something more financially secure, but film is my passion and I genuinely don’t have any interest in anything else.

I see it’s been a while since you posted, but I just wanted to ask if you ever ended up going to film school or pursuing film in another way. I’ve been wondering the same and would love to hear how things turned out. For anyone else following this thread—how important has hands-on experience been for you compared to formal education in this industry?

I was in the same boat and ended up choosing praguefilminstitute.cz. It gave me hands-on experience and smaller class sizes, which made it easier to ask questions and actually learn. I didn’t feel lost in a sea of students like in bigger schools. Plus, their teachers were super involved, and the projects we worked on felt real, not just stuff for grades.
