should I be concerned?

My DD is crawling all over, pulling up and starting to cruise. Jacob on the other hand, isn't crawling and can't get himself to a sitting position. He sits fine on his own. He actually loves to be held in a standing position and resists sitting!!! He does have a big head which I think is part of the balance issue. Mia's pear shaped body definitely makes her center of gravity lower and therefore it is easier for her to balance. WHen on his tummy,Jacob can push himself up with his arms, but his legs flail. He doesn't pull them up under him. I know some babies don't crawl, so I am ok with that, but I am worried that he isn't making any gains to do anything else. Am I worrying for no reason like my DH says?

While i don't have any answers, i would definitely bring it up with your pedi soon.

My girls were at that point at about 10 1/2 months adjusted age, and I had them evaluated by Early Intervention. Both of them qualified. Some kids just need a push in the right direction and they take off. My girls have been seeing a PT for about a month and a half now, and they have made major improvements. Josie is crawling on her hands and knees, pulling up and has just started cruising a little bit. She's also climbing the stairs! Bells has just started army crawling, and she's now able to stand holding onto to something by herself.

I would talk to your ped about it :)

I agree with pp, it's probably time to get him evaluated just to make sure there aren't any underlying problems. Every baby develops at their own pace and it might be nothing to be concerned about - but probably worth a professional evaluation even if just to put your mind at ease.

I would definitely bring it up just in case. Even if the pedi refers an EI evaluation, you could find out it is nothing, or something.

    Keep us updated.

My girls are a little younger than your twins - but I just wanted to let you know that I have the same issue with them, except Emma has a tiny head. Mia started crawling last weekend and Emma couldn't care less! She just waits for Mia to bring toys her way. At our 6 month pedi appt. she said that she wouldn't worry about them not moving till our 12 month appt. I try not to worry - I think that she is just a little lazy - I mean the kid didn't bother rolling over till after 7 months!

I like to tell myself that some kids are movers and some kids are talkers. Emma is a lot more verbal than Mia, she did her raspberries first, etc. Mia is faster at the movement milestones like rolling and stuff.

I say call your pedi and get their opinion. If they want an evaluation or if they don't see a problem at least you'll feel a little better.

Oh - and my husband tells me not to worry all the time. My friends baby who is 2.5 months younger than the girls crawled before they did and I FREAKED OUT! I try not to compare because the girls were a month early but it is really hard not to!

I agree, I would bring it up to your pediatrician. That way, if he/she thinks there is a problem, they can make a referral to ECI.

I noticed that around 4 months, Ryker wasn't doing things that he should've already been doing, he was not grabbing at toys, and not holding up his head. So, a referral to ECI was made, and he is behind 3 months (they were 6 weeks premature) in fine motor skills. He is getting therapy.

FWIW-ds didn't start crawling or putting himself in the sitting position until he was 9 1/2 months. He started sitting w/o ANY assistance at 6 months so I never would have thought it would have taken him that long!!! He started pulling up at 9 1/2 months also and just started cruising.

my 2 girls can't put themselves in a sitting position all by themselves and aren't crawling either. They are rolling, trying to pull up and 1 of them is trying to scoot backwards a bit. I figure it won't be long...but who knows.
