At our u/s last friday I was told that my cervix was measuring short at 2.9 and they don't like to see it less that 3. I am going in on thursday to have it remeasured. So they can see if I'm shrinking or not. I made the mistake of looking up cervix 2.9 and a bunch of articles about loosing babies came up.
Just wondering if anyone else at 21 weeks was measuring that short, and made it to 30+ weeks??

    needing some positive stories...

Yes, yes, yes, it is very possible to go many many weeks with a short cervix. Mine measured at 2.8 at 22 weeks. The peris told me to take it easy, but the obs put me on restricted activity and when it shortened some more - bedrest. I only sorta listened because I was determined to get ready for the girls. The result - I ended up in pre-term labor (cervix was .9 and contractions were 2 minutes apart) at 26 weeks and spent 6 very long weeks in the hospital.

My cervix was 1cm at 32 weeks when they discharged me, so I'm home now on bedrest. Just listen to your doctor and ask lots of questions about exactly what activities you can and can't do. And then make sure you follow them.

I'll be 33 Weeks tomorrow - so it can be done!!!

I certainly can relate to the feelings of anxiety you are experiencing; I was diagnosed with a shortened cervix at 23 weeks. I had just gone to the Perinatologist for an anatomy ultrasound and he checked my cervical length at the end of the visit; I was only measuring 2.5 cm. He sent me home with instructions to see my OB the next day. They both agreed that I should go on immediate bedrest and start receiving weekly progesterone shots. Over the next several weeks my length continued to slowly shorten, getting down to 1.8 cm around 31 weeks. But because the rate of decline was slow they were not extremely worried, and once it got to 1.8 cm it seemed to level off and I've stayed around 2 cm for the past several weeks.

This past Sunday was my first official day off of bedrest after 12 weeks; I made it to 35 weeks! Everyone was surprised, thinking I would have gone to the hospital beforehand. I did have 2 trips to L&D (one at 28 weeks and one at 34 weeks) but both times they were able to stop the cntx and I was sent home a few hours later.
It was a hard situation, but something I would willingly go thru again to get myself to this point; I'm so blessed to be where I am. Now that I'm off bedrest everyone's thinking these kids will be making their debut any day now. :)

So, while a shortened cervix is something you would rather not have to deal with, you can hang in there and make it close to or even all the way to full term. I would advise to take one day at a time, and have faith that you'll get through the situation. Please keep us posted on your progress! You will be in my prayers. :hug99:

mine shortened to 1.3 cm at 18 weeks and I had a cerclage the next day. I've been on bedrest ever since. Since then it's fluctuated from 1.3 to 2.3 cm. Keep off your feet as much as possible and try to avoid all the horror stories on the internet. It is possible to avoid PTL, lots of women here have had shortened cervix and have done quite well.

My advice is to lay down as much as you possibly can! Keep that baby weight off of your cervix. Also drink more water than you can stomach, keep those BH's to a minimum so they don't have a chance to change your cervix either. I was 2.5 with funneling at 28 weeks and went on strict bedrest until the end, which was 37 weeks.

I haven't had any bh, although my sneezing from allergies probably didn't help, but that's letting up alot.

My cervix measure 0.5cm at 16 weeks and I had an emergency cerclage. Spent the next 15 weeks on bedrest, 4+ of them in the hospital. Take it easy, rest as much as you can, drink tons of water, and it is good they are measuring it again soon.

I made it to 31 weeks, and delivered because baby A PROM'd, not because my cervix gave out.

Glad to hear there is hope. I don't even know what we would do if I ened up in the hospital, as we don't have anyone close to watch my son. I have gone ahead and put myself back on modifed rest. I figure why wait, when I stay at home with my son, there isn't any reason at this point I "need" to be over doing anything.
