So we went to striderite today to get shoes at our docs recommendation (we've had cruisers for a while and she is concerned that they will have to "relearn" walking if we never have shoes on them). DS has quite wide feet.

FYI - We got 10% twin discount.

However, the shoes seem really bulky and not as flexible/comfortable as I would have expected. I looked that the preschoolans website and they seem a little nicer.

    Anyone have recommendations? Likes/dislikes?

    THANKS!

We did get striderites for their first 'real' shoes.

But I really wouldn't worry about them relearning to walk. I believe current recommendations actually say the opposite, that barefoot is better. We kept the girls barefoot for most of the time (except in the winter, they had robeez on, b/c it was cold).

But other than that, they're essentially barefoot a lot. They've been walking since 11 months, so when they were first learning, if they were somewhere where they'd be on the ground, I did put shoes on. And now they wear shoes when we go out.

And FWIW, they've had to relearn on every new surface they've tried, but picked it up quickly!

My kids have all started out in Stride Rites. They get used to them fairly quickly!

I really liked PediPed. They are soft soled and similar to Robeez, but they don't have the elastic hugging the ankle like the Robeez which bothered my son. The styles are super cute too.

The boys are still a little young for them, but a friend of ours who is nurse at our pedi's office gave us pedipeds. She said they were the brand that the Dr's recommended as they were some of the easiest to learn to walk in (most like barefoot I think). I have seen them elsewhere and they run around $30/pr. Seems pretty pricy to me for shoes they won't wear for very long.

My DS wore Robeez and Pedoodles (www.pedoodles.com) for a long, long time. Well into his first year. I was told byis pediatrician that the more flexible the sole of the shoe was, the better. We did get him a pair of Stride Rites after he was walking really well in the Pedoodles. The Pedoodles are awesome b/c they have a rubber sole, so you don't have to worry about stepping on a rock or something while outside, but they are super flexible. Of course, the Robeez were awesome for indoors and outdoors when you didn't have to worry about what they might step on.

    Good luck!

We only did Robeez until a lot older than yours. We walk fine ;)

We used robeeze until they wore thru the bottoms from using them outside. Then I got flexible soled sandles from target. We'll probably get some striderite sneakers at the end of the summer. I didn't know that StrideRite had a twin discount... I'll have to ask when I'm in there next time (the last time I went in, the sales people didn't say anything about it).

We are a Stide Rite family. We didnt get them their first pair until they were walking independently. For us we live in a warm climate so we do bare feet most of the time and shoes for when we leave the house.

We purchased Preschoolians from 9 months old until now. They have 3 different levels to choose from (i.e. crawlers to walkers to advanced walkers/runners). I especially liked them because they were easy to wash, they have a see through sole so you know exactly when to buy another pair, and very comfortable. They have sooo many different styles and colors to choose from, too. I would recommend them. They give a 40% twins discount, too!

My two have worn Preschoolians as well. They are on their second pair now and I like them. They are very flexible & I have no trouble getting them to wear them. They give a great 40% discount for twins, too. I had trouble getting our last 2 pairs, for some reason they were having issues with production or shipping or something but, without me even asking, I noticed my Visa bill had a full credit for the cost of both pairs, so they were free!
