I was wondering if my girls should be wearing shoes more? I thought I read somewhere that the more time w/o shoes the better, but was I mistaken and this was just a dream of information that I dream up. (Or atleast dh thinks I do anyway) [IMG]

They are 5 m/o and only wear shoes now when we go to church and they got a pair of mary janes for Christmas that I adore, so they wore them to a shower & dr etc... but should they be wearing robeez, or something similar to daycare?

    TIA

NO SHOES! You remember correctly. I think it helps with development and walking - but I can't remember (it's been three years since I researched it)

I hardly ever put mine in shoes, much to the disdane of my MIL - but that's another story! My daycare asks that they wear soft soled shoes like the robeezes once they start cruising and walking. Until then I think the socks are fine, just to keep their feet warm!

We didn't get our 1st pair of shoes until they were 7.5 mos old and Cooper started pulling up and they were Robeez. They wear the Robeez around the house and we just recently bought them some tennis shoes from Stride Rite and some Sperry's to wear out.

I was taught that the more time babies are barefoot the better it is for their neurological development, balance etc. The advise was to keep them barefoot when they are learning how to walk as much as possible. I wouldn't have them wearing shoes unless they are walking outside.

I found this online and it pretty well sums up how I feel about shoes:

    quote:
When Should Your Baby Wear Shoes?

When should your baby start wearing shoes?

There is actually a bit of controversy about this question. Some pediatricians recommend that your baby not wear shoes until at least 15 months of age. Others feel that a child should start to wear shoes as soon as they're walking. However, you have to consider where your baby is walking. If they are cruising around your own home, then there is usually no need for shoes. But what about outdoors? Obviously you wouldn't want your child running around barefoot on cement or in the dirt. Babies should be wearing a firm shoe in this case to prevent injuries (and dirty socks).

Shoes are also protection from sunburn, cold weather, scratches and bumps. Just make sure that when your baby has the opportunity to go barefoot, let them. And don't keep shoes on for too long at a time.

If you do purchase outdoor shoes for your baby, make sure they fit properly. Their tiny toes should not be cramped. Also, make sure they are flexible enough that their feet can still wiggle in them. Mothers and pediatricians recommend soft soled shoes or booties.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it's for the best interest of your child. Don't make them wear shoes all the time for the sake of looking cute. Barefoot is best at home, and when they are outdoors, make sure they have a soft sole for the most natural fit.

My brother bought the babies shoes that they have worn only once. Really cute though.. construction boots for Simon and Ugg-type boots for Mary. I don't think that babies should wear anything other than socks until they are cruising, and even then, socks are probably a better bet (the ones eith the traction (sp?)rubber on the bottom.

If the babies are going out in the cold, then covering the foot with something like a robeez makes sense.

By the way, preschoolians shoes have that built in "visufit" window, so you are certain that the shoes are not too tight and I like that I can get my b/g twins Robeez like slippers in the same theme, but with boy-ish and girly colors (like the robot and penguin.) They also offer a discount for twins. If it were colder here, I would have already gotten them for the twins. I am waiting for them to start pulling up before I buy.

I had no idea shows were bad. I guess I better tell Aunt Lori to not buy so many. Are slippers okay?
