What size do you put your kids in? The size that should 'fit' or a size larger? When I compare the foot to the bottom sole of size 4's they look like they'd fit them [like my shoes fit me] but it's difficult to put them on.. and they're in a stage where they Really Want you to put shoes on them [and they try to put them on each other  ]. Also when I attempt to put shoes on em' most of the time they kinda curl their toes so I can't slide the foot in. Any pointers?

I'm one of thoese mom's who didn't see the point in having shoes on my girls until they could walk.. and now they're walking maniacs!!

My girls were just sized at Stride Rite yesterday at a 7 1/2. :shok: I feel like my girls have abnormally large feet, but they are both 36" tall, so maybe that is why!

When my girls were still curling their toes, I had them in soft soled shoes (like pedipeds). Once they got used to those we moved on to hard soled shoes around 15-16 months.

I usually go 1/2 to a full size up. I want them to get to wear them for awhile before growing out of them.

Oh, okay.. so the curling of the toes is normal [IMG]

Good to know, cause I thought there was something wrong with them [or me!] :p I'll have to look into a more 'soft soled' shoe for them for the remainder of the summer. Besides the pedipeds, what else is a suggested brand of shoe? I was thinking about those.. oh what are they called.. wafer-looking, lights as a feather, sandal-type shoes that come in many different colors. I think Wal-Mart sells them for $4 - $10?? [If you know what I'm talking about] Do you think these would do the trick?

Good question. I just went to a Stride Rite outlet by my house to get walking shoes for the boys. They measured at 5.5 and 6 (we're headed in the same direction as Krystyn's girls :) ). I ended up getting 3 pairs of 6s and one pair of 7s. The shoes I got didn't have half sizes.

I get their feet sized at a shoe store every year or so. For the rest of the time I just eyeball it, but I want to check every once in awhile that I'm not off by more than a size. And when they were first wearing shoes, I wanted to at least start with the right size. (It turned out Amy was a 2 and Sarah was a 3, at 12 months.)

I like the soft-soled shoes too, although mine both had to have hard-soled shoes when they started in the toddler room at 13 months. There isn't much choice in a size 2 (I wound up buying "pre-walker" shoes from Target)!

As far as getting them on -- try to buy something that opens up really wide. (I find Merrell sneakers to be really good for this -- they start in a size 4, I think.) Even now that my kids are 3.5, I'm always amazed at how many shoe styles don't open up enough for them to easily get their feet in.

I just try the shoes on them before buying them. If they have a little bit of room left, I get them that size. Right now at 15 months, mine are a size 2 and a size 3. I haven't bought shoes since they were 12 months old and need to move up to a size 3 and size 4. Shoe shopping is on the plan for the weekend!

When I went to have him measured at Stride Rite they gave me a bigger size... it was 2 months ago and it was pretty large for his feet, and they said to come back in 3 months. They still fit pretty well and should fit for the rest of the summer (5.5). For DD we bought her some 4 then I got some 4.5 for her but I guess it doesn't really matter as she doesn't walk yet.

Honestly though even if DS walks I usually don't let him walk with us or it drives DD crazy, so more often than not I don't even bother putting shoes on them... I'll bother again when it gets cooler!

My DD wears a 4/5 (depending on the brand) and DS wears 5/6. I have not had them officially measured at Stride Rite. My DS is a big fan of curling his toes too!

I agree with the suggestion to get some that open up really wide rather easily. I get mine measured at Stride Rite about once every 6 months or so. I usually just buy one half size bigger. If I go bigger than that, I end up with lots of trips & falls because they get caught up on the ends of their shoes!

FYI everyone: Stride rite is having a buy one get one half off sale right now!!! I usually go during these times to get them measured and get some good sneakers.
