The other post about shoes made me wonder... do feet size run smaller, as clothes sizes go, or are they pretty accurate?

I don't dare buying anything expensive yet because I just have no idea what size they will need. DD is in 9 month clothes, DS in 12 months... he has bigger feet. They were born at the end of February, so they'll be 9-10 months when it gets colder... What should I do? I'd hate to spend $70 for shoes they will outgrow in no time, but at the same time, they'll start walking eventually, so I don't really want to get shoes that are too big either. I was looking at Robeez and they go 6-12 months or 12-24 months... I'm just at a loss what to get. Socks just won't cut it this winter.

Any advice from some experimented moms?

Both of my girls run very small for shoes. They take the 0 - 6 month size and they are 11 months now!

My DD is still fitting into size two, although may be in a size three soon. My DS is in a size 3 and may be in that for now. I think it just depends on the baby.

Shoe sizes can be all over the place. One of my 2 year-olds is wearing a 12 month size, and one is wearing an 18 month size. But they have changed a size almost overnight. I can never buy ahead on shows since it's so unpredictable for my girls.

I don't ever buy shoes in advance. I always get my kids sized for shoes, to make sure they fit. The girls have owned 1 pair of shoes in their life and they wore them twice. Once on Easter and then for their dedication to the church. They don't need shoes until they start walking and then I will go have them fitted for shoes. Shoe size just depends on the child. Good luck and happy shoe shopping!

I "cheat," and let the shoe store do all the work! I also don't buy shoes until absolutely necessary - I don't buy sandals until late May, sneakers until September, walking shoes AFTER they've taken first steps. Right now, I have one boy in 12 month clothes, and a size 3 shoe, and one boy who wears 18-24 month or 2T, and he wears a 4W shoe. I only know their sizes because I had them sized at Stride Rite last week (so that I could know which size of Robeez to order!). They won't get "real" shoes until they are walking (which, based on their current trend, will probably be well after age one!).

Do you have a Stride Rite or Thom McAnn near you? I think even Payless kids will do free, no obligation sizings.
