for over a month now, maybe 6 weeks, dd sadie (21.5 months) has been biting the fuzz off of her pillows and blankets and eating the fuzz! whenever we don't get to stop her, that is. finally, we threw those pillows away and have taken away those blankets but they were the warmer kind, and it gets cold in our house at night because it's an older house. she acts totally normal in every other way, eating well, pooping well, just wondering if this is a phase or if i should be concerned?

It sounds like a phase to me. My DD went through a period of eating paper. We had the throw out her Hop On Pop book because it had several chomp marks out of it. She was fine, it never seemed to bother her. She only did it during bedtime and naptime, of course, when DH and I were not there to watch her. Now, the books in our home are safe from being her snack.

I'm sure it's just a phase. Don't give her any fuzzy blankets (it's getting warmer so this shouldn't be a big deal going forward); I bet by next winter she'll have no interest in the fuzz and you can give them back to her! :)

pica (eating weird stuff) can be a sign of low IRON. My daughter was low Iron and would eat the bark at the playground.

I agree it's probably a phase, but maybe try a different kind of blanket till she outgrows this phase. GL!

I would have her iron level checked. That is a sign of low iron. My niece started doing the same thing.. eating fuzz from blankets and her lovey. Her iron was very low and she was started on iron drops. She doesn't eat the fuzz anymore, but now she eats her hair. That is a very different issue though.. anxiety.

Good luck. I think her iron level needs to be checked!
