Sheets? Blankets? Pillows?

My girls are only 14 months old so we're not currently using any pillows, blankets or sheets. This weekend we visited my husband's family and everyone thought we should at least offer pillows. I love unsolicited advice as much as everyone else so I smiled and agreed that pillows are a great idea. I know my girls aren't ready, though, so I'm not going to rush out and buy toddler pillows any time soon.

However, the advice did get me to thinking about when to start with pillows, sheets, blankets, etc. Right now my girls move around a bit in their cribs so I think anything other than a sleep sack would get in they way, but I realize at some point they'll stay in one location.

When did you all start using pillows? Sheets and blankets? Did you wait until your kids moved to real beds?

We didn't use any of those until we moved them into real beds. Emilie is a bed now and uses them, however Trevor is still in his crib and doesn't use any of them.

ETA: There is a fitted sheet that they sleep on in the crib. But nothing that we put on top of them.

Our girls are 20 months old and still don't use blankets or sheets. They are still in sleep sacks. We probably won't use blankets until they are in regular beds.

As for pillows, we just put a small heart shaped one in each of their cribs last week. They fell in love with them in a store and they were small and light so we weren't worried. They are still a decent size that, if they wanted, their head could lay on it but they aren't too big or heavy that it would suffocate them if their heads were to get underneath them.

Well, I've always had sheets and a blanket since they started sleeping in their cribs at 3 months. You don't have anything on the matress? They just sleep on the bare matress? Just want to make sure I understand that is what you mean I've never heard of nothing on the mattress. As far as pillows, mine still do not have them. I intend to put them in toddler beds after the holidays when they turn 3 and then I will give them a pillow.

I'm guessing she has a fitted sheet on the matress, but no flat sheet on top.

We gave them blankets after one year, but many nights they throw them out anyway. Some nights they kind of snuggle with them though, so we leave them in there until they decide throw them out. We haven't offered a pillow yet, and I'm just not sure why we would.

They are excellent sleepers, but they thrash around all over the place when they sleep. They literally throw themselves around their cribs, all while sound asleep. The blanket that's in there is never covering them, it's always balled up. I can't imagine that a pillow would actually stay under their heads.

So we're not offering pillows or any more bed coverings.....and we're not moving to real beds....until they can stay put a little better. Otherwise it just seems pointless to me.

My kids are in toddler beds and have been for a while (bad move on my part). Anyhow, we still don't use sheets (just the fitted ones). They get blankets and they have pillows. We started using pillows when they banned the meds this year and we were using a humidifier and the pillow to elevate their heads. They were definitely older than two when they got the pillows. We have always used blankets because they could not stand the sleep-sacks. Hope this helps!

Our DD and DS started sleeping in their big beds shortly after their 2nd birthday. They sleep on top of their beds with a pillow and light afghan/blanket for naps. At bedtime they sleep with their pillows, sheet, and light quilt. Introducing their pillows to them actually helped get them excited about sleeping in their big beds!

I put toddler pillows and blankies in their cribs when they turned 1. They do actually use their pillows!! I was surprised by that! And they either cuddle with their blankies or, sometimes, they leave it on them when we drape it over them before we walk out of the room. But now their blankies are their "security item". They call it "Kiki" and scream for "Kiki" when they get scared or sad.

I attempted putting blankets on my girls around 12 months and they wanted no part of it. To this day they don't care for them.

Save your money on toddler pillows, IMO they are a waste! I bought some from Pottery Barn Kids and hate them. They are soooo overstuffed and small, it's more like a couch throw pillow.

I ended up getting a super flat regular sized pillow at Target or Wal-mart (I forget where). We put them in their cribs around 18 months and they started sleeping on them right away.

I've been considering giving my girls pillows (flat, regular size ones) because they love them so much when we lay on the floor or our bed. They've had these light fleece/fuzzy blankets since about Christmas time (daddy found them on sale & got all 5 of the kids one--they are more of a throw size). I started out making sure it was tucked under the mattress nice & tight so they couldn't pull it up. But now they do whatever with it. I often find them snuggled under it or just laying on top of it.

We've had blankets on our girls since forever. They were little through the winter and it was just too chilly here to not have a blanket and footie PJs. So, they're used to their blankets and they love having them. In fact, Genevieve will sleep-cry in the middle of the night just for us to put the blanket back on her. If she wakes up, she can put it on herself.

They've had these "pillows" since about 12 months (they're stuffed lambs that are flat and double as pillows). They stay in their beds all the time. The girls absolutely love smooching their faces into their pillows every time we put them in bed.

I check on them all the time, and we've never had any problems with them getting their faces in a place where they can't get enough air.

Mine slept with blankets from the beginning. They had top sheets and pillows the day they moved into beds at 2 years, 5 months. They still don't sleep on their pillows, but instead use them as a soft headboard.

We started using blankets probably arond a year. No pillows, so sheets except for a fitted sheet. My kids also use the blanket more as something to cuddle with. Occasionally I will lay it over them when they are sleeping, but moslty they just hug it. It's super cute. They also have a mini-blanket (or lovey) that they cuddle with. It's funny to go into their room in the morning and see Hailey's crib completely empty (except for her!) and Jake has all the blankets and loveys. I guess they are practicing sharing, or he is practicing stealing everything!

We have been using a lightweight blanket since day one. I am considering looking for pillows now because they always seems to use their blanket or their stuffed bear that is in their cribs as one.
