I'm in a funk today. My DH has been out of town on business travel for a week and my mother is here visiting. She's great, but annoying at times too (I'm sure she'd say the same of me). I thought perhaps TS would cheer me up, the the site doesn't seem very lively today. So... in an effort to get more posts that make me smile... does anyone want to share the amazing or funny things your kiddos have done lately? I'll go first!

Cricket and Piper have been their usual hilarious selves. I broke my foot three weeks ago and have to wear an immobilizer boot at all times. Cricket tried to fashion her own boot yesterday from a blanket and walked all over the family room saying 'toes, ouch'. Then she wanted us to kiss her foot to make it feel better. When she had sufficient kisses, she whipped the blanket off and started dancing and was pretty annoyed when I wouldn't take my boot off too. I think she thought that if she kissed MY foot enough, it would magically heal.

Piper has decided that any time she gets her diaper changed that her doll, and stuffed bear, and stuffed tiger, and every Little People person she can find also need their "diapers" changed. I have wrapped so many tissues around Little People lately that we ran out of tissues downstairs.

The girls have learned their body parts over the past few months. This week they've been attacking my mother and identifying her body parts. Every time the poor woman sits down, someone is there yelling 'kneeeeeeee' or 'beee buttttt' (belly button). Then of course, they want to touch the body part and show you that they have a shoulder or an elbow or a tongue too. My mom has had to show off her belly button at least twenty times this week.

Now it's your turn... what have your kids done that made you laugh or smile lately?

Thanks for starting this post - it always cheers me to up to share fun stories about my kiddos!!

Everything is all about counting at our house lately. They've both recently mastered counting to 10, so now everything must be counted - and we must count 1, 2, 3 before doing anything.

My favorite was when they were going down the slide at my parents' house last weekend. They always had to count to 3 before sliding down, but they'd always start counting before they had gotten their little butts into position. One time Porter counted to 3 but then realized he still wasn't scooted forward enough to slide down, so he looked confused for a second, but then just decided to keep counting. He got up to 7 before he was actually ready to slide down - so that time, instead of one, two, THREEEEEEE, it became, one, two, three, (pause), four, five, six, SEEEVVVEEENNNNN!!!

The other thing they like to do now is recite the Sandra Boynton Dinosaur book - at all kinds of odd times, regardless of whether the book is in front of them. They don't know every word, but they know the key word on each page, and they will go through those words over and over and over again. The other night at dinner, Bridger was mumbling something and I was trying to get Porter to eat and didn't pay that close of attention. Finally I realized he was saying Happy, Sad, Good, Bad, Big, Tiny, Smooth, Spiny, Weak, Strong, Sing, Cold, Hot, Cute, Not, Early, Later, (unintelligible), Plump, Lean, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, You, Bye - and then repeat again and again!

(This is shameless bragging and sharing just as requested by the original poster :D but I do think I should bring this to reality a bit and clarify that their pronunciation of the majority of these words is far from perfect! ;) )

Oh, I absolutely LOVE happy kid stories.

About 5 minutes ago my 4 yr old ds told me it's ok if I burn the muffins we were making for snack at preschool for tomorrow, because Miss Anne (his teacher) likes burn-ed muffins. I was thinking...here she was probably just trying to make someone feel better, and my son thinks she prefers her muffins burned!

The other day I went out with one of the boys while the other stayed home and hung out with dh. When we returned he was standing holding the door open for us to come in. He was laughing and chattering and waving, and I thought he was so happy to see me. Then when I walked up to give him a big hug, he pushed me off and ran to his brother who was walking up behind me.

And here's a just this minute one...Will and Alex were playing nicely, but Nicky was awful quiet. So, I just went to find him. He's up on the counter eating the muffin tops off all the chocolate chocolate chip zucchini muffins we just baked. So much for taking them to school, he must have eaten a good dozen tops off (they are mini muffins). Grrr but

That SO sounds like something Alana would do! :)

My girls have always loved music and since they could talk, they've been singing. Their newest favorite song that they've learned at daycare is:

    "I had a little frog
    His name was Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub
to teach him how to swim.
He drank up all the water.
He ate up all the soap.
And when he tried to talk
he had a bubble in his throat."

Then they say "Ribbit Ribbit oh Ribbit Ribbit oh!" and laugh their little heads off. It cracks me up every time they sing it!

And the other day, they were talking about their friends at school and I asked Alexis, who's your best friend and she said "Alana." So sweet!

I just gotta say I'm impressed with y'all's kids and I'd brag too...especially the counting at one month older than mine...woo wee!

    I'll shameless share:

I think it's hilarious that the boys have started whispering to each other and then they just giggle like it's the funniest thing ever!

I love when I ask one of them "where's Bubba" they go screaming BUUUUUUUBBAAAAAAAA! through the house.

It almost makes me cry every night, when it's bedtime, and I say go say "nite nite to bubba" and they hug and kiss each other...it's too sweet.

It cracks me up that they see a car and say the word "car" it sounds like they're from Boston...you know what I mean.

And mostly I'd share that my boys are so affectionate and loving and I can't imagine not getting those double hugs and kisses...so makes the "toddler" times worth it!

well, not necesarily bragging cuz mine aren't as gifted as yours all LOL

this last week has been major growth though, i've seen bear jump on two feet for the first time, and he just thinks it's hysterical when it works.

ally has learned to move her mouth like a "rabbit" and it is just adorable she just moves her jaws like she's chewing with her mouth closed and then cracks up.

ally has taken a special love to her brother, and chases him around for a hug while he flees for his life and both giggle with glee.

bear now says "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm" when he gets a bite of food.

much to DH's delight, ally has started calling him "papa" and "papi" (we're spanish speakers) and he just melts into a puddle on the floor. FWIW he was previously "daddy" and the sign for father before....bear still calls him mama! (we're both mama to him, but sometimes i'm mommy and then it's my turn to melt)

here's kind of a funny story : DH is out of town a couple days per week, and just last week bear walked into my room in the morning and noticed the light from the bathroom coming thru under the door (it was natural light, from the window, but since it leads to our closet where it was dark, it looked like a light was on). so he squats a little like he's trying to look under the door and calls out "mama!" (meaning DH) i had to show him he wasn't there! LOL must mean DH spends lots of time in the bathroom.....

thanks for starting this thread, it's fun reading about others, and who doesn't love talking about how great their babies are?!

I have to admit, their dad and I have been shocked at the things they have noticed and said lately!

They are recognizing most letters (I'd say about 15 out of 26), can count to 20 and are saying things that are just way out of this world.

Ex: "I was thinking after lunch we could play outside to get fresh air" :p

I love these threads. I love hearing momma's brag!!!

This week A has taken to tucking her baby (doll) in before we go to bed at night. She puts her on her favorite chair, takes a blanket and tucks it in, kisses her on it's head and then says "Night!" while waving! Its just too cute!

M on the other hand takes her baby to bed with her and insists that I tuck baby in just like a tuck her in. Her crib is getting pretty crowded now between baby, tiger, two kittens and all the blankets needed to tuck each and everyone (including M!) in!!!

A sleeps with a blanket and lots of little 'hanky' scraps- cotton hankies that are her security blankets- but she chews and rips them to make them smaller. Now she wants her hankies tucked in since her sister has all the stuffed animals in her bed tucked in!

I never understood elaborate bedtime rituals, but now I see how these things happen!!!

Talking of elaborate bedtime rituals - this is less of a brag and more of an 'ahhh' post ...

When DH gives Maia a goodnight hug and kiss she takes his face in her hands (Italian Mama style), brings his face towards her, and kisses his mouth, nose, forehead, each eye and each ear (all Italian Mama style). It's so adorable. Tal does something similar, but tends to air kiss.

It melts me every evening to see their ritual.

My 2 pulled the chairs out in my living room and started chasing each other with their buggies!! They were laughing, giggling and having a ball. It was so funny to watch! Also they kept stopping every 2 minuets or so to swap the baby with the teddy as the only found one baby so had to share. They really dont share very well so it was so cute to watch them playing so nicely together. x

Lily has switched from mama - to MOMMY! It is a beautiful insistent resounding MOMMY and it makes her sound like she is about 12.

Lily has also started singing and when I sing the "Hello" song that we do at the Library during the play group she sings it with me matching my tone exactly. It is so cute.

Lily is also able to do the animal noises to sheep, cow, cat, and pig.

Jack flirts with everyone he meets and has mastered this shy little flirty gaze while looking out from under his long beautiful eyelashes that melts everyone he looks at.

They have both started jumping off of their little stools or the one step outside. They do it over and over again so proud of themselves!

I loved reading everyone elses' stories - thanks for sharing!

My mom was outside in garage washing clothes and my DD was yelling for her nana. Nana said here I am in the garage and she looked in the door. My DD said Oh good I thought you LOST.

Such sweet stories! Here is mine - Cody is always a joy & while we were out eating the other day, he would wave at everyone in the place & say "hi" to them. I think he made eveyones day a little better. That is his gift. He can make anybody smile.

What a GREAT thread. We are on the younger side of this but mine still amaze me everyday.

They LOVE letters. We have the letters A, B, C hanging on the wall in the living room. When I say where is the letter A (or B or C) they go to the wall and point and mutter something that I am assuming is the letter. Under each letter is a picture and a word that the letter stands for so if you are talking or reading to them and they hear the words (Apple, Banana or Cow) they stand up and point to the letters.

They seem to really listen to instruction and what it means. If I tell them to bring me something, go sit at the table or get a diaper change they go and do it. They can't climb into their chairs at the table but they know which chair is theirs and will stand next to it. If I say diaper change my DD brings me the wipes! If I say we are going to bed but first have to brush our teeth they will go to the bathroom door. If I say lunch breakfast or whatever meal they go to the kitchen!

They are also getting good and helping get dressed and undressed. They understand how to put their feet and arms in sleeves and pants. They understand what shoes are and when they walk in the house they try to take them off immediately (we don't wear shoes in our house)

I think they are doing so well for only being 13 months!
