My DS has been shaking his head often, not all the time but mostly when he's in a playful mood. Is this a sign of anything I should be worried about?

there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him and he seems to get a kick out of us mimicing him when he does this. so maybe just discovering what he can do with his neck? I don't know.

One of mine, in particular, does this alot. I think your right, they have discovered this is something new and fun that they can do. It's so cute to watch them discover new things. Our new thing is clapping their hands. How sweet!

My DD does that too! I was just thinking yesterday if there is something wrong but I really think it's a new thing she just discovered.

It sounds more like a new discovery to me. But if it worries you at all, I would mention it at your next well baby visit.

My DS does it and has for a long time. I wondered when it began if it was anything to worry about and my Ped said, sometimes we just like to shake our heads, nothing to worry about. My mom said an old wives tale is they shake a boy shakes their head after he pees. Who knows.

That is so funny because my MIL said when she shakes her head, she pees. She'll even say to Leah, "did you go pee-pee? Leah just starts laughing.

My son shakes his head a lot and he usually does this when he's really happy or eating. He also loves doing it to music. If you do it back to him, he does it again. I think it's nothing more than a discovery (that it's fun to do), although we have started baby signing and I think he's just come up with one of his own. I wonder if it means he's gone pee-pee too?

My daughter makes clicking sounds with her tongue when she's in a good mood. My husband responded to her clicking and she, in turn, clicked back.

Both smile at the communication. So, I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Enjoy it!

My girls started doing this around 9-10 months and they thought it was hysterical!!! I think he just figured out he can move his head! But if its accompanied by anything else out of the ordinary or you are concerned, call the pedi (I don't want to seem like I'm minimizing your concerns).

I agree with all the others-nothing to worry about. Braxton did it around that age and now he does it when he hears music. It's just one more new thing they've realized they can do with their little bodies.

Natalie does this a lot. Especially when she is excited about something.

My girls do this too, I don't think it's anything to worry about. They are just learning new things and having fun doing them:)
