Hi everyone. I'm new here - this is my first post. I'm 14 wks pg with identical twins. I'm seeing an OB and a peri. My peri says it's okay to have sex and my OB disagrees. My OB says he's seen women go into preterm labor just from sex.

My peri just checked my cervix a few days ago via u/s and says it's doing great. He's going to see me every 2 weeks until 20 weeks. I have no other complications now - I did have a subchorionic hemmorage, but that cleared up by 9 weeks. The few times DH and I did have sex, I've had no cramping and no bleeding.

Normally I would just go with the more expperienced doc (the peri), but I trust my OB and have seen him for years (and he delivered DD in 2007). I have only met my peri once, although I have heard great things about his practice and he was highly recommended by my RE.

    What do you all think?

Generally there is no reason why you can't have sex while pregnant with twins if there are no complications. Your OB sounds like he's just erring on the side of caution (which is not necessarily a bad thing). As long as you are comfortable with it I'd say go for it until they give you a reason to think that it might not be a good idea.

    And welcome to TS!

I had it both ways. We discovered the twins after a couple times having sex led to bleeding. I got the u/s for that reason. We were put on 'pelvic rest' in the beginning for that reason. We were then ok'd to go ahead, until around 30 weeks when my cervix unexpectedly shortened to 1.7cm. Then, once I was 37 weeks (& 3cm dilated) we went ahead again. It did not cause labor for me- I hung on for another 5 days.

Personally if you are healthy I do not see a problem, initially. If you have further complications I would abstain, but you will when the time comes.

There is no research that shows it leads to contractions but some epople want to be careful. I was put on pelvic rest when I was put on bedrest at 30 weeks but before that it was fine.

Hi there! I had a subchoreonic bleed as well upto 14.5 weeks - when it did finally stop I was told to wait another month! After a month of no bleeding we got the go-ahead and so far so good.
I agree it does sound like your OB is erring on the side of caution - but if your cervix is good and you feel good I'd say go for it - just always listen to your body!
