So the pain started last night. I know what it feels like when the babies head engages and I know how much 'pressure' can be felt. But this was like a horrible searing pain every time I move my legs and it seems to be more in my muscles and bones. Steps are impossible. I can take tiny little baby steps to walk but it takes me a good 5 min to get across the room. I'm 32 weeks and 4 days so hopefully I have a while to go. I called my doctor and of course he says, 'It happens in every twin pregnancy... it's normal...stay off your feet.' That's all.

I mean, I knew that there was nothing he could do about it, but I've been reading online about SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) and how it's the separation of your pelvic joints. It's more recognized in the UK I think. It's not dangerous or anything, but it does often last AFTER birth instead of going away like normal pelvic pain.

Anyone deal with this? It radiates all down my back and if it continues- I'm bed ridden until the babies get here. If it's not SPD, is it dialation or something. I don't think the head could engage because it's more painful and baby A is breech. What do you think?

Sounds like SPD to me... I have had it since about 16 weeks. I have found that the Prenatal Cradle has been a lifesaver for me to at least allow me to be a bit more mobile. I can also say that sitting or laying down a lot has actually increased the pain rather than decrese it. I am not saying get up and run a marathon, but in my case even a little activity has helped to keep me going.

I am not sure exactly where your discomfort is, but mine is right in the center of the pubic Symphysis bone to the left of the cartilage that holds the bones together. Mine has completely detached from the cartilage I think since every time I lay donw the bone actually crunches the edge of the cartilage. It has also made it impossible for me to sleep on either my left or right side and only on my back. My doctor says this is not a problem at all... In fact, when I expressed concern about sleeping on my back his response was that it was totally a matter of comfort. Most women are not comfortable this way and you are so go for it and get at least some sleep!

Anyway, I hope that you can get some relief. Unfortunately, I have heard that the only relief from this pain is birth and although the effects can be lasting in some women most recover eventually.

I'm radiating sympathy for you and the pp... can ya'll feel it?

I had the same condition while pregnant with my two year old. I saw a physical therapist three times a week for 4 months. It got to be so debilitating that the Dr. induced me. The good news is that I am fine now (but expecting to go through it all again shortly). It also cleared up by the time my episiotomy had healed. Try all of the support products you can get your hands on, and try not to wiggle!

    Good luck to you.

This is totally me too. I am on bedrest, so luckily I don't have to deal with it much, but if I'm on either side, it kills me. And, turning over or manuevering in bed? forgetaboutit.

i hope you find some relief soon - my peri said the same thing - it happens.

I started out with what felt like sciatica pain where it was a shooting pain down the butt and then leg. It quickly turned to pelvic joint pain which hurt on the right side. Getting out of bed at night my hip would almost freeze and I had to hold the wall and bed and was very unsteady and painful few first steps. Also, lying or turning onto my back was soooooo painful I would moan through most of my turn.

The pelvic pain has slightly subsided after 3-4 weeks --still weak but a little less painful. But about a week ago I was moving myself up on a couch and now my pubic area -- the front is so painful. I feel like my pubic area the bones are just going to waste away and fall away. Now turning in bed is so sore in a different area and I have to shove the biggest fluffiest pillow between my legs up high. I was crying last night it hurt so bad.

Just wondering what new symptom I will acquire next week.

I sincerely recommend reading what this website says about pubic pain. I already have a problem with my lower hips, and then sciatic pain started at 18 weeks and radiates around my lower abs, lower back and down my legs. It gets a lot better with walking, but if you are on bed-rest I'd look into some exercises you can safely do to relieve the area. From what I've read, that also is linked to ligaments (makes sense as I have NEVER had sciatic pain before). One night while changing positions on the couch, I heard a loud pop that neither was my hips nor my back and it was up front and down center. After that, I've have a lot of pain in the crotch when I stand, walk, get up, crouch, etc. It does seem to go away when I'm on my feet and walking for more then 3 minutes, or at least it's easier to handle. When your back freezes like that, I'd be very concerned that it's more than ligaments, that something may be out or trying to be pulled out. Definitely see a chiropractor, and make sure it's one that deal with ligaments and works with pregnant women.

As I'm only 24 weeks and still have 10 or more weeks to go, I can only imagine this is going to get worse and as I had only done all this research since this past week - I'm definitely going to go to the chiropractor my mom recommends - she does ligaments and works with pregnant women. I hear she'll also work with the pubic symphisis and it's painful, but as it could cause pain later on after I've had the babies, I'd rather get it worked on now and continuously and not have it come up later in my life. lol

Funny I had read that article but my concern with the article is that it seemed a bit too pro - Chiropractor. Mind you I've gone to them in the past but I find you do need to find someone who is GOOD -- I have found that if you get someone who works out and is in good physical shape they tend to be able to apply more precise pressure when making adjustments. Someone who is less physically fit will make several attempts before they get it right. I guess with being pregnant I'm more cautious about going out and testing to find the right one. I have only moved to this city and country in January.
