Separate rooms and big kid beds

I have 2 1/2 year old boy/girl twins who have been sleeping in the same room so far. We are going to separate them into their own rooms this weekend and we are about to make the transition to big girl/boy beds. My question is ... is it better to do both of these things at the same time? Or should we get them used to sleeping apart first and then make the transition from cribs to beds. We bought new mattresses that will be delivered this weekend and I can't figure out whether to put them in the new beds right away or make up the beds in the room but let them stay in the cribs for a while to get adjusted to the separation or hide the beds somewhere else until all is well with the separation and then set them up and give them a try. Help!

    Thanks,
    Kirstin

I would do it all at one time and make a really big deal out of it, so that they are excited about it.

I agree! I bet they love their new big kid beds and rooms!

I just switched my girls to big girl beds and seperate rooms about 3 months ago, it has been the best thing ever! They finally get the rest they need. I highly recommend it! I can't believe what a difference it made in our situation. They have a Jack and Jill bath, so they can still hear each other, but giving them their own room has been awesome!

Thanks so much for the advice. We pulled the trigger this weekend and it has been amazing. They absolutely love their beds and they don't seem to care at all that they are in separate rooms now (my husband and I wanted to cry when we separated them but they don't care!). We had planned to do this all along this past weekend but as the day got closer I started to get cold feet. How did they get this big so fast?!? But thanks for the advice - it was the shove I needed to go through with our plans and it is definitely working out well.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I had the same anxiety when we separated, but they could care less. I think for me it was one of those milestones that meant they were no longer babies.

That is great!!! I am sure you will love having them in their own rooms. It made a huge difference for us too!

I was so happy to read this. We switched to toddler beds about a month ago and are moving soon. When we move they are going into their own rooms. I am more hopeful now than I was before reading this.
