I noticed in a previous discussion someone mentioned seeing spots and I just thought I would share my scare from the other night (because I learned some useful info). Long story short I started to see spots last night and I really didn't think too much of it because the same thing happened to me last year and it ended up being a really bad headache. So I took some tylenol hopeing that this headache would not be as bad. I decided to call my mom anyway (maternity nurse/specialist) just to make sure that this was not an indicator of anything else. She told me that she wanted me to see my Dr ASAP just to take my BP because (I had no idea) vision problems could be a sign of BP problems. So I went to the Dr and while waiting to see him my whole left side of my body went tingly and kind of numb, including my tongue. Wierd. The Dr came in and said BP was fine and urine tested fine too. He said that it was most likely just a bad heacache coming on and the numbness was due to that as well. Sorry this is so long but the interesting thing that I wanted to share is what he said the difference in the vision problems means. He said that seeing black spots (like if you looked at the sun too long) is an indicator of BP issues. Spots like flashy lights or a "halo" effect (which is what I saw) is a headache issue. Anyway just wanted to share the difference. I learn something new every day being pregnant!

Sorry to hear about the spots and headache but glad you went to get it looked at. Interesting about the two different kinds of spots! That is great info!

I used to see spots just before I would get my period. I knew I had to take some meds real quick or I would be in for a headache that would make me sick to my stomach!

    Hope you are feeling better!

Good, I saw twinkly spots for just a second the other day in the shower. I didn't feel funny I just figured I moved too quickly bending down and then standing back up. Good to know it was probably nothing.

Cool information. Who would of thought.

That's interesting. I had the migraine type of spots at about 4 months. It was scary, because I couldn't see anything. Hope you are feeling better.

I had those spots once at the very beginning. I think it was because I was dehydrated. It went away after I drank a couple glasses of water. But, I'm not a doctor, so perhaps it was migraine related, I've never had one before.

With my daughter I was seeing these the last week or so. I had no idea that they were significant until I was admitted to the hospital. My blood pressure and urine checked out fine except at one appointment where my BP registered a little high. They sent me for a blood test which confirmed the creatine (sp.?) levels were rising. Subsequent urine and BP tests came back fine but the blood levels continued to rise so I was sent to be induced - which wound up a C-section. I am very conscious of these spots now as an "early indicator." It was almost like little "holes" in my vision where the picture was distorted and brighter.

You are right to notify your OB of any and all things whether you think they might be significant or not!

    That's interesting.

When my bp got bad, I saw spots. But mine weren't black spots. I saw all these firefly looking spots, everywhere in my field of vision. My NP asked how I was feeling and I answered, "I'm fine, but my head hurts and I see these firefly looking things." Her face got serious and after a quick bp check, it was off to L&D!
