Second year molars?

I assume second year molars are named such because kids usually get them when they are 2. I've even heard of kids getting them before 2. My girls have not gotten them and there's no sign of them coming. Is this late or still normal? They started getting teeth late in general. Neither of them had a tooth crown before the age of one. Anyone else here have kids who still don't have second year molars by 2.5?

My girls started cutting their two year molars right before they turned two and a half, and they are halfway in now (at 32 months). So your girls aren't the only ones who are getting "2.5" or "2.75" molars!

Our pediatrician told us at their 2 year visit that the gums looked swollen where the 2 year molars would be and I feel like they have been coming in forever. My poor kiddos are drooling up a storm and chewing on their hands... I am not sure how long it takes, mine aren't 2 1/2 yet but at the rate we're going, I'd be surprised to see those teeth in there at that time.

One of my boys had all 4 2-year molars before age 2. The other is currently teething - he has just 2 more to go, but they are brutal!! I think it's very normal for your DDs to not have them yet - teeth come in at all kinds of different rates. :)

Andrew has 3, and the 4th is almost all the way through.

Ivy still doesn't have ANY! I check her gums with my finger now and then, and sometimes I think they're swollen, but I'm not sure. Oh well, she is my dawdler, and she does love taking her sweet time with everything!

Elias got them before he was 2. I just see one poking out for Ezra. The rest are still buried.

Meara only has two of the four, and only got the two about a month ago. Ana got all four at once about 2 months ago.

My boys are 2 today :birthday: and Josh has 2 of his (lowers) that are almost all the way through; no sign of the top ones.

I can feel bits and pieces on all 4 of Jakes and he has been one crabby guy these past few weeks. Motrin helps, but until they all come through, it's going to be rough for all of us.

I actually JUST checked Conner's mouth for his tonight & there still isn't a sign of them. No swelling, no redness, nothing. If I feel, I can FEEL them under there, but they appear content right where they are ;).

Aiden, on the other hand, had all 4 of his not long after his 2nd birthday. He's always been ahead of Conner in terms of teeth. Actually, Conner's 1 year molars weren't all the way through til he was just shy of 2. My guess is that Conner's 2 year molars will pop up somewhere around 3 :).

Oh my word, Alice is the exorcist baby! She's totally cutting another one (this will be #2) and was up night before last screaming, miserable, flailing about for hours. I've never seen her so upset and unconsolable. And ANGRY! She wouldn't take motrin, she wouldn't drink anything, she wouldn't take her binky, she sat there and cried hard, sobbing, for an hour and a half saying, "mouth huuuurts mommy". Finally, I gave up being nice and forced some motrin in her mouth, she spit most of it out, but managed to get enough down to dull the pain, an hour after that, when she was asleep, I woke her up and gave her a full dose of motrin.

Let's see if I can remember correctly. DS got his about 2 1/2 - 3. These take alot of time to come in at our house it seems. It was about a 6 month process for all four of them.

DD is an entirely different story. Nothing at 3. FINALLY she is getting them in. The bottom two are in. There is one top that is pretty much in and the fourth that will take at least another month or so. It has broken through the skin.

The dentist said that they are just late teethers. Gosh, they didn't get their first teeth until 8 months?

mine started getting their 2 year molars at just after 2 and it took MONTHS - The 2 year molars were really the only teeth that bothered Abby....

My boys both got all four of theirs when they were 21 months old...how do I remember that so well, because they were terrors right when I had baby girl!

I think there is a whole range of "normal" with teeth so I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Emma got 2 of them a little bit before she turned 3, but just last month got the last two. She finally has a full set of teeth. :D
