Seat protectors

When we had our car seats installed today- the fireman who checked the car seats mentioned that if we used the seat protector under the car seat we needed to be aware that they are not "crash tested" and that there isn't any research that would indicate how, or if ,they would impact the carseat's functioning in an accident. We decided not to put them under the carseat today- but I am curious if anyone does use them, and how, if at all, they affect how the carseat fits or if there were any issues?

We use them and had the Health nurse install our car seats, there were no issues.

We have cloth ones. I can't see how the cloth ones would make an impact?????

We don't use them, I had heard they were not safety tested. It hasn't marked up our seats at all, even leather.

We use them--even though I drive an older car, I prefer it to remain as pristine as possible.

We use one for the bigger booster seat my toddler is in. I will definitely get more when the twins go into the bigger booster seat as well. I have never heard of them affecting the safety of a car seat.

We use them under all three car seats- the toddler seat does leave indentions underneath if we don't. I have no experience not using them under the infant seats in this car. They also come in handy when the kids are older and in booster- because if you ever give your kid food in the car- it will find it's way to your seat :p
We were told the same saftey speech with the "snuzzlers" we have in the car seats for the girls- but I still have them in there- I can't see how it would really make it any less effective...

Our Health Dept. will not install your carseat (or check your setup) if you have a seat protector. We don't, but were informed when we went to have ours checked out that in the event of a crash the seat protector can cause the bottoms of the car seats to slip off the seat. A friend of mine that works at BRU also said the same thing. I guess when the fire dept. comes there to do seat installs they make you remove the protectors if you have them in.

We don't use them because when I researched it all I found was negative feedback. The California Highway Patrol also says not use them because the car seat can slip. We have leather seats and I just vaccum every once in a while to get the cereal crumbs off the seat and wipe them off.

nope.. they are not safe... I had bought one for each carseat and then was told and researched how unsafe they can be. They can make the car seats slip, that was enough for me... It is a personal prefernece... i can say i was happy to get themand eager to use them till i heard this...
