So the newest thing that is great fun for the babies is to screech as loudly and as long as possible. It is awful, I have such a headache. Have any of you dealt with this? What can I do to not have them do this anymore? TIA Jen edit because apparently I can't spell my name

Take heart, it doesn't last long... My twins are only 5 mos., but my older daughter tried this for a few weeks. She got bored with it. One idea, though... When she'd start screaming I'd put my finger to my lips and say "sssssshhhh" really quietly. And then say "Whisper, whisper very quiet" in a very soft voice. It would always get her attention, because I never talk that quietly to her. After a while, she started putting her finger to her lip, too, and saying "ssssssh." It's cute...
Try singing. It'll get her attention and she might try using that voice for something more pleasent like You Are My Sunshine or something.
i don't have screechers - but Danika likes to growl. she sounds like a little godzilla in the living room. it makes me laugh. i like the PPs suggestions of whispering or singing - i'll keep those in mind for when my girls discover they can scream.
I can relate. Lily started that at 7 months and did it every day for three weeks. She would tilt her head back and screech at different octive levels as loud as she could for as long as she could. DH and I felt she was trying to find her voice. Well after a few days DH started telling her "I know the words to that song can we change it" . I hope this phase passes for you soon.
Oh yes, screeching is so much fun. Mine don't do it as much but they will have days where they like to try it out. It's annoying and the best way we found to deal with it is grin and bear it. Hang in there!
