Well, he wouldn't be the first.

When Royce was right over 3 1/2 years, he went from zero to trained in two days. He'll do it, you just have to find his currency. We did sticker chart with lots of matchbox cars for big rewards after every ten stickers.

I get frustrated easy. He had one accident today and I feel like I am failing at this. I cannot complain.. I think it was a stalling technique, we were having chicken for supper, but he said "Poop." We went into the bathroom and he went poop. He has not told me all day that he needed to go potty and I have had him on the toilet every hour, if not sooner. He always went. I just need him to tell me vs me putting him on the potty all the time and having accidents.

    Jackie,

I know you are concerned that he may have low tone. Some kids with low tone have a difficult time potty training due to the fact that their muscles don't necessarily sense things like a full bladder or the urge to go poop, so it sounds like you could be doing exactly what he needs - taking him to the toilet every so often instead of relying on him to tell you when he has to go, as he might not yet totally know.

    Hang in there.

This is what a friend of mine discovered with her low muscle tone girl (who also has autism). It wasn't the autism which made her hard to train, it's being low muscle tone.

Potty training is definitely a two steps forward, one step back process. With my first we had a period of backsliding (literally - poo issues)a full six months after potty training. SO FRUSTRATING!! But I promise he's in kindergarten now and we haven't had an accident in years :) Just remember it's normal!!!
