Screaming

My twins are 2 years 4 months and just recently DS has entered a screaming phase. Out of nowhere he will let out these ear splitting high pitched screams. His favorite places to do it are at the table, in the car, in his baby sister's face... If I tell him to stop or use inside voices he just laughs and screams louder. If it happens at the table I have been taking his plate away until he stops, but I am powerless in the car. Any advice on how to handle this or how long the phase might last?

 

Hi - My DS did that a few months ago but the good thinkg is that it was very short lived. We really didn't do anything but completely ignore him. Not a comment, not even a glance in his direction. Couple days of no response and he was done. Thank goodness.

Good luck - hope it stops soon. The few times my DS did it he nearly gave me a heart attack. LOL.

 

Aliah did that for a very short while too... I told her that if she wanted to scream, she had to be on grass and sent her outside to scream. And each time she did it, I said to her, you have to be on grass to scream... I can't remember how I came up with that, and don't know whether it was just natural progression, but it didn't last long, a couple of weeks tops..

 

My older son did it forever. We tried everything positive discipline wise and it just didn't work. He got to where he was screaming at DH and I more than he wasn't. So, one day he was in the kitchen right next to me and did it and I threw a couple ounces of water in his face that was sitting in a glass. Definitely wasn't my best moment, but it worked like a charm. He never screamed after that. His reaction was hilarious though. It was more of shock that I would do something like that and then said "you just don't do that to people!"
