hi. i'm 34 weeks and while i've had minor sciatica flare ups throughout this pregnancy this one is really really bad adn seems to be hanging around. i know i've been overdoing it since i'm desperately trying to unpack my new home and setup the nursery before i give birth but does anyone have any ideas about how i can get some relief?? it's like daggers are sticking me every time i take a step.

    thanks for your help!

Sciatica is the worst!! I used to take tylenol and lay down with a heating pad, my OB said that was fine as long as it wasn't too hot. I would also try to take it easy, I'm sure unpacking and setting up the nursery doesn't help it. Take Care!

Physical therapy may help - sciatica can orignate anywhere from your mid back through the muscles in your pelvis - in addition of course to your little critters pressing on your innards :icon_eek:
    Good luck

You aren't alone. I get sciatica too pretty bad. There really isn't anything you can do to get rid of it except they tell you giving birth will do the trick. Mine is very bad durning pregnancy but I still get flare ups when I am not. Good Luck!!! I hope you feel better soon!

mine started at 20 weeks and it was really bad. the only thing that got me through the rest of the pregnancy was my massage therapist. i saw him every week until i delivered. a couple treatments after they were born and it totally gone. good luck.

The only thing that helps me is when I elevate my head and back with pillows and then put my feet up on some pillows to elevate them..That works well enough for me to sleep and then it is usually better in the morning. Hope you feel better :hug99:

I have had very bad sciatica flare-ups too! I found a wonderful chiropractor and the office also does massge therapy and I think it has helped greatly! Also, when you are having pain you can keep putting ice on it. . .That helps me the most when I need to sleep. . . As far as making the sciatica a little better, I have found that water therapy is great! I live in Arizona so swimming is 2nd nature when its so hot but just walking in the pool is good and prevents the pain before it starts because you are strengthening the muscles in your back. . . That's what has helped me anyway. . .And at times the pain has been completely unbearable!!!

    Good Luck!!

Tylenol, rest, massage, and seeing a chiropractor were the only things that helped alleviate my pain (for a short time anyway) during my last pregnancy. I hope you find some relief.

I'm so sorry! I had it for a period during my pregnancy but luckily, maybe as I continued to grow and things shifted, it went away. I did some yoga stretches from a yoga DVD I had. Also I wore a prenatal cradle to alleviate pressure, not sure how much either of these things helped but worth a try :)

I have been suffering from this early in this pg. It gets so bad, literally brings me to tears. At first i thought I was being a big "wussy" till i seen that others suffer from the same pain as well. They only thing that seems to ease the pain for me is massage. It doesn't take it away but it gives me relief. I also have severe back pain(pre pg as well) and am given pain meds for when i absolutely can't handle it. This i use as a last resort, but there are times when i need it cause reg tylenol will do nothing for the pain.

I hope it eases up for you.

I just keep telling myself no more than 11 more weeks. Its my own little countdown i have!!

    Hugs!
