This is the first time in forever that some schools in my area are open in President's day due to Sandy than a blizzard.

I'm wondering if other parts of the country has school today.

We don't. The schools up here are actually closed this whole week for winter break.

My kids are off the whole week this week for Winter Break. I am not sure if they time Winter Break to coincide with President's Day or not.

We don't today but it is a snow day so if we had been closed for snow before today then it would have been an open day

Paul is teaching today. I don't think we usually get off for Presidents Day.

And, of course, I'm at work. Always. ;)

We always have school on President's Day. But we were just off 3 days last week for Mardi Gras. Some schools had all of last week off for Mardi Gras.

I'm guessing it's only in south Louisiana that school is closed for Mardi Gras. I know when I went to college in North La we still had class.

No school here in New Mexico on Presidents Day. But kids here don't get a winter break, just a spring break in late March or early April. This year it's in early April and school is only in session for about 25 days after that due to the school year ending really early this year (May 21).

Yup-our Presidents' Day is always the week of winter vacation. And Patriots Day in April is the week of spring vacation.

Usually our Presidents' Day is the start of our mid winter break. But this year due to all the days we lost due to Sabdy followers by a blizzard, my girls had school. Most of the surrounding districts did as well.

The school district I used to teach in lost 3 days of the break.

We have never had school on President's Day. But we only have President's day off..we don't have any kind of winter break. Now if use more than 5 snow days before this point they will take a day from Spring Break and then take President's day and use it as a school day. But that has to happen pretty early on for them to do that. Even when we had the back to back blizzards in Feb. 2010 they didn't do that and we still had off President's day, I guess because by then it was too late in the month to make all the necessary changes for parents.

Called my SIL yesterday and was surprised when my brother answered the phone. he is a teacher. I had forgotten it was President's Day.
He said, he thinks, 'we would do a better job of honoring our Presidents by working on Presidents Day and having election day off.'
    I kinda like that thought.

Our snow day was last monday. In fact the official phone call that the kids had school on President's day did not come till Friday afternoon even though it was on the website.
One of my girls had 10 students absent in her class yesterday. Both girls had the same math packet for HW for the week (dh was home with them and they both finished the packet already)

We are in Michigan and our district has a long weekend (Mon and Tue) off for Presidents Day.

I LOVE The time with my kiddos-- but do wish they had a day to recognize various Presidents, it would be a great 'teachable moment' rather than a day off.

Then have a day off afterward for midwinter break! ^_^

No school on President's Day for us. We don't get a winter break, but did have almost 3 weeks off at Christmas and Spring Break in March.

The schools here had to be in session. This year the governor decided that the schools had to run from no earlier than August 20th and no later than May 24th so a lot of the extra days off had to go out the window. As most schools used to start August 5th(ish) and go until the same time.
