Scheduled C-section

Hi ladies...
quick question... for those of you who had a scheduled c-section, how early were you able to schedule it?? DF is trying to plan vacation time and paternity leave and we will most likely opt for a scheduled....but we don't know how early we should be thinking about it...Will ask at next appt, but thats in two weeks....

My Dr would not do the sectio earlier than 37 weeks -- but he told me the approx date about a month in advance, I think.

Not sure if you mean how early you were able to have the c/s....or how early you were able to get it on the schedule... My docs were really pokey about giving me an actual date.. the way my hospital worked you really couldn't get it scheduled weeks and weeks in advance. I got on the schedule just four days before I had it...and that was at 37wks 5 days. As far as how early the doc will set it for...that's completely up to their own philosophy. My docs all said, "sometime between 36 and 38 weeks.." But in reality none of them were comfortable setting it between 36 and 37 weeks... they all wanted to push it as close as possible to 38 weeks. And of course you could wind up having something come up...like your body goes into labor on it's own, and you wind up having it earlier anyway!! So make sure your dh can have some flexibility in his planning.

 

My doctor did not want to schedule earlier than 38 weeks, but neither did I. Even though I had large babies from the start, I wanted to keep them cooking as long as I could! We scheduled for 38 weeks, 1 day.

 

What I meant by this post was how soon in advance were you able to have it on the schedule....I'm still very confused about this....At least a tenative date....

We booked ours about 2 weeks ago, so at about 31 weeks.

My dr. wouldn't book it before 38 weeks, but since my 38th week is on the weekend, we had to push it off another day, but then the dr. & hospital were already booked, so it ended up being 38w3 days, which I really don't think I'll make it too!

 

My doc also wouldn't schedule me before 37 wks.

As for when we could GET on the schedule, it was at my 35 wk appt. He wouldn't schedule it before then since he wasn't sure if I'd go onto labor on my own. I was glad we were able to get the spot we wanted, since I guess the spots fill up fast. All in all, from the day I scheduled my csection to the day it's planned will be 14 days. I'm not sure most docs will be willing to schedule you much more than 2 weeks or so out. It's easier than having to cancel surgery & pull you off the surgery schedule from scheduling too far in advance.

 

We were able to book the date with the hospital about 6 weeks in advance.

 

I think it was at my 34 week appointment that my doctor scheduled my c-section for 36 weeks.

At my last doctors appt I was 24 weeks and the scheduled my C-section. They told me I could go earlier but they wanted to save the date since they work with 3 other doctors outside their office.

 

My doctor told me that she would not let me go beyond 38 weeks. I never did get to schedule. I went into labor on my own at 35wks 5 days and I had seen her the day before.

 

We haven't technically scheduled yet (though I hope to soon) but he did tell me he schedules them for Tuesdays and I will have to be 39wks to do it....that is August 28th....so I pray we can schedule it for then. I am going to ask if we can at my next appt. (though I hope to go a week earlier on my own).
