Scheduled C-section?

I had my 32 week OB visit this past Tuesday and my OB comes into the room and says "Now that we've scheduled you for a c-section on March 3rd (due date is 3/16), we come to find out both babies are head down." I know that they just wanted to get something scheduled just in case but isn't that something that they should have discussed with me before doing? He is comfortable with whatever I want to do and prefer. We are going to keep monitoring the babies positions for the weeks going up to 3/3. Has anyone else had a scheduled c-section in advance?

I think scheduling a c-section in advance is normal if it's known that is what you prefer or what the doctor prefers. Personally I think it seems strange that it is assumed and scheduled for c-section when there are obviously other options, especially with their heads down.
Either way I wish you a wonderful and healthy delivery!

My Ob told me she would schedule my c-section sometime around 30 weeks (not deliver then, just schedule it).

I think they automatically assume the babies will not be head down, so they schedule them as a precaution. My Ob said that, if both babies are head down and I am comfortable with it, she has no problems attempting a vbac.

Are you leaning towards a vaginal delivery?

I guess he had it scheduled before seeing my latest ultrasound which was on Monday (day prior to OB visit). Yes, I am hoping to deliver vaginally. I asked him how comfortable he would be if after the first baby was delivered and the second baby decides to flip if he would go in and turn her or if he would deliver breech. He seemed pretty confident and comfortable with doing that. I want to go as far along as I can with the pregnancy so a 3/3 c-secton date just concerned me a little. I guess we'll just wait and see what happens.

My due date is 19th of March and my OB isn't booking anything at this point. My two were both head down till the last scan on Monday when Baby A turned breech. My OB just said to prepare myself for a c/s but we will wait and see what happens closer to the time. My midwife expects them to be here before week 38 but you never know. Maybe they take a different approach to scheduling in New Zealand. Everyone just seems to be fine to let things take their own course. Just have to stop getting pre eclampsia now and all will be fine!!!

I guess every practice works differently because mine wouldn't schedule without me picking the date/day. :pardon:

Maybe he just scheduled as a placeholder? I have had scheduled c-section with all of my children (and I adore c-sections, by the way) - my file somehow slipped through the cracks with baby #2 and I had to deliver at a different hospital because my OB's primary hospital had no time slots a week either way (my c-section was scheduled 6 weeks out for that one, I think - way late compared to my others). I say better to have the date than not - even if you don't use it!

It's possible that they might have scheduled that far in advance to make sure they had a spot if they needed it. My OB's office did not schedule my c-section until I was 36 weeks and I was given a choice of two days 12/24 or 12/26...both during my 38th week. Baby A (DD) was breech and they figured at 36 weeks she was not moving from there because she had been breech most of the time.
Wishing you a lot of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

I do think it's odd they didn't check with you about the date. But I think it's normal to schedule them in advance. Glad they will keep monitoring the babies positions. :good:
