My doc will not schedule me before 39 weeks. Is that too late? Everyone else seems to go around 37-38 weeks.

Mine won't even talk about induction until I hit 40 weeks.

My doc won't even TALK about scheduling a c-section until I'm 39 weeks. Which, is good for me because I want to avoid a c/s like the plague if possible.

My ob scheduled my c section at 39 weeks but told me it was basically a formality- that she didn't expect me to make it that far, though I know some women do. Good luck! :)

Many consider full term for twins to be 37-38 weeks. I think 39 may be too late depending on the projected sizes of the babies. THey were projecting my boys to be 7.5 lbs each, which would have been risky for me. If they had been measuring smaller maybe I would have waited until 39-40 weeks. The risks for multiple pregnancies go up significantly after 38 weeks, which is one reason why you see so many people with delivery dates before that. The most dangerous one is uterine rupture.

Mine scheduled me for 37.5 weeks but that was due to a placenta previa ~ she probably would have shot for later than that had I not had the previa.
As things get closer & closer they may move that up depending on how you are progressing.

My doctor said 39 weeks was what HE was shooting for. I had an appt. with a different doctor at some point who asked me if I wanted to schedule it... (Twin A was breech) and I said sure.. We scheduled at 38 weeks on the dot. Turns out my doc was double booked (different hospital) and so he came in on the Saturday prior to deliver my twins. It turns out I was in labor and probably wouldn't have made it until Monday anyway! You probably won't make it that long, but it is a nice goal.

My doc won't do anything before 38 weeks so I was scheduled for induction at 38w2d. She thought that was fine also since I have a tendency to carry larger babies (and these also measured ahead). Next, even though I was fine, I had pretty severe swelling in one leg for which I had u/s twice but they came back normal. It just seemed it was time, babies were big and they were full term. They were right!

My doctor wouldn't schedule my c/s until I was 38 weeks and it was for when I was 39 weeks. :good: My doctor never thought it was dangerous or too late so I never put much thought into it. :pardon:

I was induced at 37.5 weeks and, looking back, I feel it was a bit too early. I wish I'd waited. My babies were a good size for twins, but they were still quite small and they had weak sucks, poor latches, and one had a bit of trouble with body temperature. I wouldn't be in such a rush if I had it to do over again.

Yup, my u/s is scheduled for 38w6d. I hope I make it that long, but we are quickly running out of space. I am 5'0 on a good day, and there is just no more room left for the three of us!

I'm having a medically necessary c-section and my doctor intends to schedule for 37 weeks. I dont think he has any intention of letting me go much beyond that given that I'm only 5'0 tall and I also think he may be concerned with my uterus stretching too much given the incisions that he made last year for my myomectomy. A ruptured uterus would be a very bad thing.

I had my c-section at 38 weeks, my doctor did not schedule until I was 36 weeks along when they were pretty certain that baby A would not turn from breech. They also did not expect me to make it to 38 weeks (no idea why) but they had given me the schedule of the doctors on if I went earlier then that. I have not heard that having one 39 weeks is too late, as long as there are no issues with you or the babies. Good luck!

O.K....so now I don't feel so bad! I thought that my dr. was the only one shooting for 40 wks. It must be protocol. I am sorta leary about going so long because that's where I read about still births and things of that sort (when the baby be in there so long where they run out of room/breathing space?) It must just be protocol because I'm sure they know what they are doing...But my plan (little do my doc know) is to have my boys at 37 wks. Because as soon as I hit 36 wks. I will be doing alot of walking to cause my boys to drop. 39 let alone 40 wks is too long for twins even the majority of singletons don't make it that far! :umm:
