ok, I hope this doesn't sound too silly.

I've had a C-section b-4 but it was unplanned. so I keep wonering how this planned one will be different, and I had a thought a few days ago that I've been wondering about.

with my first C-section my water had already broken on its own. but then I got to thinking, and now I wonder, do they break your water b-4 they start the surgery? in my mind it only makes sence that they would. I mean what would happen if they did the surgery w/o breaking your water? wouldn't amniotic fluid get all over the place? I'm thinking this could be a bad thing. but what do I know? so really that's all I'm wondering.

do they break your water b-4 they start your surgery?
thanks for solving this question for me.

I am glad you asked this question. This is my first pregnancy and I have a scheduled c-section on the 16th and I am wondering how everything is going to go.

My frist c-section was planned and the doctors didn't break my water ahead of time - they just went ahead with the surgery. I guess they have good suction or something.

I think they break your water during the operation - that's what i've seen on TV.

With a scheduled c-section there is no labor or anything, they numb you, cut you and deliver the babies.

My husband was an OB Tech while he was in medical school and he said they do not break your water before a scheduled c section. I guess they just suction the fluid after they make the incision!

thanks for the input. lol! kinda funny that the idea of suction never crossed my mind. makes sence though. now I won't have to think about that one anymore.
