Ours were delivered at 35 weeks exactly. We had to do this because our DD had a velamentous cord insertion. The delivery was fine and we are very lucky that we had the c-section planned because it turned out that I was dilated 5cm already and if my water broke or if we had waited longer than 35 weeks, we would not have had such a positive outcome. Anyway , they stayed in the NICU for about 2 weeks. Our DS was put on a respirator and needed to be given some surfactant for his lungs. (I did not get steroid injections for their lungs prior to delivery) He had the respirator for a few days and received excellent care. The time spent in the NICU is kind of a blur, but I am happy to say that they are both happy and healthy children. I know it can be scary, but I'm sure they will take very good care of all of you. Just want to let you about our experience and that it was the best decision for us. I wish you and your family the best and am sending good thoughts your way. :hug99:

My son was born at 35 weeks exactly… and no NICU time… as a matter of fact he was 6lb 6oz… but this was a singleton pregnancy… and I had not even heard of steroid shots much less had one… mine wasn’t scheduled, mine was emergency… my contractions were 2 min apart and when they started to monitor him his HB went WAY down… so they decided to get him out… it turned out he pooped out his Meconium… so he looked a little incredible hulk ish… they think that is why he went into distress…. But I have often wondered if I was further along than they thought (it would explain why every test came back elevated…)

GL i hope all goes well for you

Hey! I had my amnio at 35 weeks and came back mature. I had the steroid shots at 32 weeks and I think that helped. My babies were six lbs a piece and no one needed any o2. They were in the NICU for 6 days due to slow eating (JOKE-- wanted my money for sure!!) and maintaining temp (my butt.. another way to take my money!) Once I finally came out of my drug induced "coma" lol I pushed and they let me take them home cuz of course there was nothing they were doing for them there that I couldn't do at home!! 100,000 dollars later!! Of course insurance paid most of it but OY!

You'll all be fine. They are identical I guess or why are you having them at 35? I did cuz they're identical and this is when my peri delivers ID's to be safe.

Turned out GREAT for us and I got to recover from my c section and I really really NEEDED that!! Good luck!!!! PM me if you have any more questions!!

Good luck with the delivery of your babies!

I had my boys at 32 weeks and had steroid shots at 24 weeks. Even though they were a little earlier than your babies will be, they did pretty well and didn't need much in the way of breathing assistance - just spent time with a nasal canula with room air. They were really mostly in the NICU for feeding help and a few apnea spells.

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful birth. :D

My girls were born at 35.3 weeks because Sierra had stopped growing. Sierra was small but perfectly healthy and she stayed in the Special Care Nursery for 7 days until she proved that she was able to eat and grow. She came home at 3 lbs 11 oz. Ainsley had to go to the NICU for respiratory distress and was on a ventilator for a couple of days. She was in the NICU a total of 9 days and then was just fine. The girls have always been healthy. BTW, steroid shots work best within 2 weeks of receiving them so they may be worn off by the time you have the babies. The physical changes to the babies lungs will remain but the chemical changes may be gone. I had the steroid shots at 25 weeks and they were not effective anymore by the time I had the babies. Since you are having an amnio to check lung maturity, this shouldn't be a problem though. You'll know ahead of time if there is a possibility of respiratory distress. Twins mature more rapidly than singletons so the babies may have mature lungs at 35 weeks without any interventions anyway.

We had our babies at 34wk5d due to decels on the NST and showing signs that they needed out. I did have the steroid shots -last one about 30 hrs before delivering. Neither baby required any oxygen therapy at all. They did end up in the NICU for a week due to feeding issues and jaundice. The biggest thing I noticed -after coming home- from them being born at that point was just that it was a lot harder to get them to nurse and it took a few weeks to get to the point that both are nursing well, but everything worked out wonderfully!

GOODLUCK to you!!!! My girls were born at 34w1d and spent 17 days in the NICU. I had the steroid shots at 30 weeks with them. They were born with 8/9 and 9/9 apgars and their NICU stay was as growers/feeders. Reagan was my smaller one at 3#14oz. and ate everything they gave her out of a bottle from day one! She was just tiny and needed to put some weight on before they would let her go home. She did have apnea/brady episodes, but they phased out by the time she was discharged. Morgan was born at 4#8oz. but was a HORRIBLE eater. She was mostly on a feeding tube until around day 12-13...then, she FINALLY took a bottle and stayed that way. She did come home on an apnea monitor b/c she was still having episodes upon discharge, but the monitor was more precautionary than anything.

On a side note, there are plenty of babies born at 35 weeks that go straight home with mom. Each person's story is different. GOODLUCK...can't wait to read your birth story and see pics!

My girls were taken by c/s at 35 wks exactly and spent 3 weeks in NICU as feeders/growers. They were tiny, 3 and 4 lbs, and that was why we had the semi-emergnecy c/s. Their lung and heart development was fine, thank goodness. We'd had shots but I think they would have worn off by then.
The biggest issue I faced (apart from that excruciating month in the hospital) was that they did not nurse well until they would have been 40 wks gestation, so about 2 weeks after they came home. I almost gave up a couple times.

Good luck! Why are they scheduling the delivery at 35 wks?

Well other then the fact that im almost 35 weeks and still under 140 lbs and having alot of trouble due to the size i am and the babies 3 weeks ago were 4 lbs and 3 1/2 lbs if the ultrasound weight check was right and my husband is in the military and they just threw at us that we are leaving on the 29th with new orders and my docs want to go ahead and deliver so they can have time and i can have time to recover ..i was really hoping to make it to 36 weeks but ....im just hoping and praying that things go good and the babies are healthy and im just under so much stress right now with everything that is going on ...i had the steroid shots at 32 weeks so im really hoping that it helped with lung maturity

I just posted our birth story, but I wanted to encourage you. Our boys were born at 35w4d, so while they had 4 days on you, they were close. Our "wimpy white boys," as preemie Caucasion boys are referred to by our L&D nurses, were anything but wimpy. They had no NICU time, and we're home today (Saturday) and they were born on Wednesday via scheduled C-section.

Hope everything goes well for you!

I had the twins at 35w1d due to pre e. I had the steroid shots a week prior. They each spent 11 days in the NICU in order to learn how to eat and be able to maintain their temps. Their lungs were fine and neither needed assistance in that area. Their weights were 5lbs5oz and 6lbs1oz.

    Hey Kayla,
I posted earlier re: my boys being born via MY own choice scheduled c section.. I was kind of like you w/ the whole uncomfortable thing except I gained 100 lbs and went from a size 6 to a size 16 and was HUGE! The babies were six lbs a piece already and lungs were good so we went for it. They kept telling me over and over that I wouldn't have any NICU time. They spent 6 days in there tho due to their "early gestation".. I was really quite upset about it and would have waited just 3 more days IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN that they'd be in the NICU AT ALL!! They are also identical so my Peri's take them at 35 anyway but I was doing SOO incredibly well- no dilation or anything like that-- that I may or may not have waited just a few more days IF it meant keeping my guys OUT OF THERE! I did not have a very pleasant NICU experience as far as the nurses were concerned; very rude.

Anyway, it sounds like you know what you're doing. I was just really bummed cuz I was planning on ZERO NICU and then came to find out it was mandatory no matter what til 36 weeks gestation at my hospital! Frustrating!

Good luck and everything will be great!!
