WEll, since my dr. isn't doing any more u/s unless medically necessary...I went ahead and scheduled a 3D/4D u/s scan at a very popular u/s place in the area. I was asking the ladies in the MOTC and a lot of them had been there and said it was a great experience!

I get a 30-40 minute session with 20 minutes of it on DVD, all the pictures on CD as well as some of them printed out for me, gender determination :a_smil09:

    It's a week from today...I'll be 20 weeks! I can't wait! DH adn I are SOOOO excited!

You know what's funny...after being ALL upset about my OB not performing another u/s...I was scheduling with this place and they said in order to "prove" that I'm receiving pre-natal care, I have to bring in a picture from my last u/s so they don't get people coming off the street using them in place of an OB. I told him that I ONLY have ONE picture and that was from a 10 week scan. He said that was fine b/c he hears of a lot of docs in the area only doing that one scan which is why a lot of people choose to go there later on.

Also, I was talking with my MIL (she used to teach lamazze at the hospital I will deliver at and currently just does their hospital tours)...I told her about my OB only doing the one u/s. She said that it's fairly common with OB's that's she heard of...and she knows mine and recommended her to me b/c of her reputation. She said that the hospital gets a TON of complaints from women (just griping in general) when they are going through their classes and talking to other moms there about only getting one u/s, etc. So, I guess it isn't that uncommon and it's not like I'm the "only one."

So, that all made me feel a little better. The scan I scheduled at this place is $165. Not too bad I thought. I'm only doing it the one time...I'm pretty sure I'll eventually end up with another scan at my OB office the further along I get since I'm considering VBAC, so I'm just doing it this one time. If I did it at the OB office, it would just be 2D and would be $250! Plus, ast the place I'm going to, if they can't determine the sex (b/c of baby position, shy baby, etc), they will allow you to come back free at another time to catch another glimpse!

wow you have to pay for an u/s at your ob/gyn??...or is that just if you had "elected" to have one without a medical reason?

It's ironic that you hear so many people in the medical field warning about not going out and getting the 3d u/s ...and yet they are kind of promoting it by only doing one u/s. I think it must be really different depending on where you are at geographically...in my neck of the woods the only people who have just 1 or no u/s are people that go to midwives... EVERYONE here who goes to an ob/gyn has at least 1 u/s at 20 weeks... and possibly an earlier u/s.. if they skip an u/s it's usually the earlier one, not the one at 20 weeks. But at least you know that it's normal for your area.

I think I'd be going out for a 3d u/s too if I weren't getting any more u/s after 10 weeks.. Hope you get a ton of great pictures! Can't wait to find out what your new addition will be...boy or girl...fun fun!

I would have to pay at the OB office if I elected to schedule an u/s and they didn't "decide" to do one.

I'm so glad you posted this. I considered having a 3D/4D with the girls but I figured that we wouldn't get the shots of twins that we would with one. So I've scheduled one for December 15. I'll be 29 weeks. It's $195 and includes a 30 minute DVD, a CD with 15 pics, and 6 5x7 prints. I'm also going to pay the extra $30 so my mom and DH can watch it on live streaming video since they won't be able to be there. That will be the only u/s DH will get to see. I'm SO excited!

I can't wait to see the pics you get from yours!
