Ok, the boys currently sleep from about 10-8:30 and eat at 9,1,5 and 9. We are going to add rice cereal into the mix soon (hopefully next week!)

I would like to change our schedule to be 8,12,4 and 8. Then rice cereal after each bottle so that would be 9,1 and 5.

We don't have a nap routine down yet, but that doesn't bother me because they sleep through the night. Does this sound like a good schedule?!

    TIA!!

looks fine to me. I didn't do cereal (or any solids) until 6 months adjusted age...when mine were your age they did 5 bottles a day still. It's up to you though. Good luck mama!

It sounds like a good schedule to me. You can always give your new schedule a try and see how they adjust to it and then change what you need to based on how they react. Good luck!

to be honest, i would probably just do the cereal once a day to start. but that is just me, we have just started doing 3 solid meals a day and it is exhausting! but it is fun to watch them eat, so if it works out for you, go for it!

Sounds like a good place to start to me. Schedules are so individual and have to be tweaked to fit whatever works for you & your little ones. So, I would start with that & see how it works for you, then make adjustments as you need to. Good luck!

Sounds great to me! :good: If the babies don't like it I'm sure they'll let you know. ;)

First off, I'm SOOO EXCITED :yahoo: that you guys are already doing cereal!! Those sweet NICU babies are really doing well! I started with just once a day with the cereal (after lunch bottle) and then when we started veggies, I did cereal after the breakfast bottle and veggies after lunch bottle. We didn't start cereal until 6 months and went really slow with introducing new foods. Our pedi was really worried about them starting solids so quickly on preemies, but we were also pretty behind on motor skills like head holding. I'm glad we took it slow. It gave me less to think about (and less mess to clean too!). :)

Tarin, I started off with just one meal a day, about an hour after the 3rd bottle. Once they caught on, I added the other two meals in, about an hour after the 1st and 2nd bottles. Sounds like you have a good plan!

I know the first week or two is just practice, and we've been doing that with formula on a spoon for the past couple days in preparation for eating real rice cereal!

So once we get an OK from the Doctor to start, we'll just do once a day then go to 3 meals.

    Thanks for the reassurance!!

I can't say much about the schedule since my guys didn't get much formula at that age, so I'd trust the other ladies' judgment.

I know I always say this, but rice cereal is a notorious constipator, so I'd watch for that. I couldn't give it to my guys for months; it really clogged them up. If you get that problem I'd try oatmeal or barely. That's another reason to start slow on the rice. Plus, they are still pretty young in their adjusted age.

Good luck; your boys are growing so fast!!

They get rice cereal in their bottles. They came home from the NICU on it so poop is a very rare occurence around here!! Thanks for the tip!!

LOL! You're a lucky ducky on the poop thing. I'm really surprised that a hospital put it in their bottles; that's interesting.

Grayson had a really hard time keeping food down. He wasn't aspirating (sp?) or anything, he would just bring it up and it would get stuck and he would stop breathing.
