Hi all. I was wondering what you thought about waiting to go into labor to have a C Section. I am 35 weeks one day. I am getting a little anxious about waiting for labor to start knowing that I will need a c section. I was in the hospital for 4 days with pre term labor. I had the steroid shots, mag sulf, and lots of monitoring. I was sent home with niphedipine to keep the contractions away. I am starting to have maybe 2 contractions every few hours with bad lower back pain. So I know the niphedipine is wearing off. When it is time for my next dose(every 6 hours) the contractions go away for an hour or two.

Does any one know how long it takes for the niphedipne to wear off enough to go into labor?

When is a C Section usually possible to plan if Baby A is breech?

    Thanks in advance,
    :D

Not sure about the medication question but I thought I'd add the fact that my OB had me schedule a c-section for my 38th week whether I need it or not (I gather that the practice doesn't have twins go past the 38th week). Based on monitoring, they may move it up depending on their assessment of the babies but I just figured until then, I'll wait for labor to start, get a u /s at the hospital to figure out what position they're in and go from there. I'm assuming no matter what that I'll need a c-section given that Baby A is breech and I'd be suprised if he turned.

With a C-section it doesn't matter what position the babies are in. I am not sure how long it take for the niphedipine to wear off. Congrats for making it to 35 weeks and going strong, that is awesome!!

I have no experience with that medication. My dr scheduled my c-section in October for Jan 3. My girls were baby A breech and B transverse. He told me that if on Jan 3 baby A was head down we could either induce to try a vaginal delivery or go on with the scheduled c-section. When it came down to it my girls were breech and transverse so we went on with the c-section!

Congrats on making it 35 weeks! I don't have experience with pre-term labor however my baby A was breech and baby b was transverse. My doctor would not do a vaginal delivery with baby A breech. The doctors waited until I reached 36 weeks to see if the babies (especially A) were in the same position and since they were, they scheduled a c-section at 38 weeks.

However, if I started labor prior to the scheduled date, then they would have done an emergency one at that time. Not sure if this is helping you or not, but I would also call your doc as well!
