One of my twins is coughing pretty bad sometimes. I called the after hours line for the doctors (calls a nurse at a hospital) and she heard it and said just keep cleaning his nose out before he eats or lays down. I know it is going to be a long night for him. I just feel really bad and wish I could take his cough away. If he is still like this on Monday I am taking him in to the doctors.

Thanks for reading I am just really scared.

Is it a dry, hacking, cough? Or a wet, phlegmy, cough? Is he still eating ok? If you have any doubt, take him in to be seen.

You don't need to be scared unless you hear him making a wheezing noise on his breath IN. Not really a barking cough, but it's the intake that makes a wheezing noise. That can be an indication of croup.

If you have a humidifier, put it in the room and if you can elevate the head of his crib (Put a pillow UNDER the MATTRESS) and that will help a little!

    I know it's hard!! :hug99:

His crib is raised more and there is a humidifer in his room. His cough is kinda like a barky airy cough. I do know what is like having a sick child all the time. It took doctors forever to tell us that our 2 1/2 year old has ashma (spelling). When he gets sick it is in his chest then treatments and if it gets to bad then we are in the hospital. Like doctors say we hope it goes away when he turns 3.

I am just scared for my little one.

    Thanks for the support

:hug99: It's scary when they get sick when they are so little. Don't hesitate to take him in if you think something is off. It's good that you can recognize wheezing, I would watch for that.

Hannah(my 9 year old) was asthmatic when she was younger, and has since mostly grown out of it. She only used the nebulizer once last year! There is hope!

If he sounds kind of barky, then it could be croup -- there was a thread on the parents forum that said the best treatment for that was *cold* moist air, so if it's cold outside where you are, bundle the baby up and walk outside for a few minutes. Or, you can just open the freezer door and stand with him in front of it....this is supposed to reduce the swelling around the larynx that causes croupy coughs almost immediately.

Also, try a cool mist vaporizer instead of a warm steam humidifier -- I have one of those facial ones that does both cool and warm mist, and I turn it to cool and hold my DS right over it, so he breathes it in. It works well....

    Hope your munchkin is okay!

I hope that he gets better soon. :hug99: I know it is so scary when they are sick, esp. when they are so little. I hope that he does not have asthma in the long run either. :hug99:
