My DD is willing to sit on the little potty chair, but is terrified (seriously) of sitting on the big potty. Any suggestions? (she's 3)

I would buy a special potty seat to go on the big potty. My daughter didnt have this problem but i know that she was scared that she was going to fall in and get flushed away... They sell potty seats that go on the "big" potty at target and they have Dora and spongebob and all kinda of things. Maybe let her pick it out... Its kinda like a reward..

Have you only tried at home? Would she go in a public bathroom? Maybe if she did that she would feel proud of herself and be able to bring that success home? Obviously this wouldn't work if she is petrified to go away from home. If that is the case I would put a little potty in the car and just let her go where she is comfortable until she works up to it. I purchased a blow up potty that used small trash bags and was planning to put it in the car but never needed it, maybe something like that would be an option for now?

I'm assuming you have a potty seat for on top of the toilet... that would be the first obvious suggestion... my next would be if she has any friend's or cousins to look up to.... my dd became much less afraid of the toilet after seeing her cousin do it like a big girl... as for my ds who is just over 2... I can't get him anywhere near either the little potty or the big potty...I'd settle for either!

Thank you guys for all the suggestions.

She finally decided yesterday to hop up on the big potty w/ the Dora insert. And proudly said "look, dora's happy" :) She didn't even use the step stool to get on and off the big potty. Granted, she has not yet had success on the big potty, but we are now 3 days into potty training w/ only 2 accidents. She did have a BM @ nap, but had a pull up on (i'm not counting that as an accident).

I also purchased and "On the go potty" at Baby Depot today. It's a collapsible potty seat and it comes w/ a great little bag.

    Thanks again for your advice!!!

My son hated using the big toilets. He was so scared of falling in that if we went out anywhere and the toilet was too large he would hold it the entire time until we got home--that is if he made it that long. We ended up buying a seat that would attach to our toilet at home. This helped tremendously. He eventually grew out of it once he figured out how to hold himself up while going.
