saw the OB today, still bleeding NOT pregnant or miscarrying which is good but in a way makes me sad b/c seeing those pregnant bellies in the waiting room with the excitement when they came out with their sonograms made me want another baby...but here i am typing this while a child is screaming...HA! i must be nuts.

anyhow, she checked me out, saw the blood and discharge says that i'm having an irregular or abnormal ovulation cycle and it's taking a long time to shed, hence the blood flow....she said she could give me a medicine, progestrin, to stop the bleeding. take it for 10 days and then return to a normal cycle of 5 days. well progestrin is a hormone and i don't do hormones so i declined. she said to call by the end of the week to see if the bleeding has stopped, if it hasn't then i have no choice.

she checked with her hand for cysts of polyps and didn't see anything so that was a plus. she said if this continues the next move is an ultrasound to verify there is nothing serious in there or to call immediately if the bleeding gets heavy.

soooo now i just hope it all goes away soon and that in a few days i'm back to normal, no more tampons/panty liners and that the periods that follow are normal.

I was waiting to hear from you and you were in my prayers. I'm sorry you had to go through the scare and I know about that tiny shred of disappointment. Thanks for updating us.

hopefully it stops on its own. as for the progesterone, if its the same thing that is used in infertility, there is a "natural progesterone" capsule that is used, its made at a 'compounding pharmacy' according to the doctors prescription... and is what they use in IVF/IUIs after ovulation for 2+ weeks... unless your pregnant than you continue for a couple of months. its similar to what your body should be producing. it helps to thicken up your lining etc. you insert the capsule vaginally.... and wear a pad. a little messy... but if it helps your situation, well worth it. good luck and hopefully you don't have to deal with it.

Glad to hear everything is good. It actually happened to me (sorry, didn't see your original post) too. I had bled for 6 weeks post partum, and then a few weeks later I started bleeding & it didn't stop until 6 months. Then I didn't have a period for 2 months, but now its going back to normal. Hopefully your body gets in sync soon!

Yep, it's a hormone that your body naturally produces from ovulation until your period starts. It's the decline in the progesterone production that triggers your period. If you are pregnant, your body continues to produce progesterone, signaling it not to shed your uterine lining. It's a naturally occurring hormone, taking the pill would increase your progesterone levels, and when you stop it it would "fake" your body into properly shedding the lining.

I hope the bleeding stops soon, but if it doesn't, you might want to reconsider the progesterone, it won't hurt you. I had to take it to sustain my pregnancy with both my dd and my twins for the first 3 months.

I just got done dealing with similiar, I bled for 3-4 months post delivery. They put me on provera for a week or ten days. Then I had what I would say was a mini period and havent bled since. I am probably coming up on being a month ago and am waiting to see if I will start with periods or not. ( I am pumping 3x a day so hoping I get to hold off on the periods for a while yet)

I noticed no side effects of the Provera and it has been wonderful to not have to deal with the bleeding.

Good luck and I hope you get an end to the craziness soon.

thanks i took the provera for one day, i just can't handle hormone treatments, my body doesn't like them. i called my OB yesterday (day 19 of bleeding and more severe yet mild cramping) and told her i couldn't take it. she said that was fine and that we would do an ultrasound this week to see what's going on.

i never breastfed and i know breastfeeding can really mess up your cycle for a long time. i've had several normal periods since giving birth. today is day 20 and i'm still bleeding. the OB suggested taking another pregnancy test - again negative. so we shall see.

i have a friend who had similiar problems and she had a ruptured polyp on her ovary and had to have it removed. :(
