Scar tissue after c-section?

I had a c-section 3 weeks ago. Scar seems to be healing well, but there is a hard bump that extends the length of my scar directly above it. I did a little research online (my doc appt isn't until next week), and it sounds like it may be scar tissue that's forming.

Anyone have experience with this? I'm concerned if it is scar tissue, it will not go away...

Scar tissue is normal, and we wouldn't heal without it of course. The body can tend to over-react and make too much. In physical therapy we use a technique called cross-friction massage to lessen the formation of too much scar tissue. I did this with both my c-section scars and I can honestly barely notice my scar.

If you want to try it, take your index finger and put it on a table like you are pointing to something, then take your middle finger and put it over it (on the nail part). You will use this finger positioning to gently at first rub up and down, across your scar (perpendicular to it). Your skin should move with your fingers, not your fingers moving over the skin, like in a spa massage. It might feel tender at first. I started at about 2 weeks, and did it several times a week for a couple of months. I made sure the skin was well healed first, and if I had small areas that weren't closed (I did in the corners) I avoided that area with massage.

If you are not sure it's scar tissue I'd talk to your doc, but this really worked for me.

I have the bump as well, but it has become much less noticeable in the last week or so as my activity level rises, so hopefully yours will too.

i had the same concerns at first too, but i just commented to dh the other day about how it really seems to have softened over time, and that was without doing massage.

Like a pp, I have used massage to soften the appearance of scars. A friend also swears by mederma for her c-section scar, if you want to give that a try. Mine is barely noticeable now.
