My twins 'talk' a lot to one another. Complete with hand gestures and facial expressions! :D
    Too cute really..

My concern is that after hours, days, weeks, months of teaching them words. They both only say dada, mom mom when they need something or are upset..my son is starting to say yes although it sounds like a 'ssssss'. They are both trying to say dog, but it comes out as 'gog'..my daughter tries to make the duck sound too. But that's it. Otherwise they 'twinspeak' the whole day.

Do you think this is a cause for concern? Maybe they're just late talkers?

How did you get your twins to say words? What method did you use? I would like to compare...

Also, A couple of months back their doctor said that twins usually are late talkers, but that I should expose them to more social environments where they will hear a lot of talking and conversations. Unfortunately my family stay overseas and so does the majority of Dh's. We get together with his cousin and her family once in a while but not often enough. Otherwise life is so busy we hardly get together with friends. I've been thinking about MDO programs but money is a bit tight right now. Then there is the multiple playgroups. I just havent gotten around to going to a meeting, they're at 7pm. Could the lack of social expose be the reason too? Maybe huh? But how do I correct this?

This mom needs some help! :p

My girls have only started having a language explosion in the last month or two so I don't think its a problem. I know they have many words that I understand, but others wouldn't. They say "Idradeher" which means "I trade her" when they want to trade a book or toy with her sister. So maybe you can try to decode some of what they are saying? There are still some things I don't know and its frustrating for them, but the look of pure joy when I figure out what they are saying and say it back to them is amazing! Bottom line, I wouldn't worry, but talk to your pedi at your 18 month appointment if you think its still a problem.

My boys were about 20.5 months old when they had their language explosion. It was as if it happened overnight, they went from saying 10-15 words to about 30 words. Then that quickly went to stringing words together. Although exposing them to social environments is helpful, I think that spending time reading and talking to them about everyday things is the most helpful!! I wouldn't worry about it yet. There was a newspaper article the other weekend that says if your toddler isn't talking at 30 months, then you should be worried. Before that will depend on personality!

So enjoy the twinese babbling, because once they start talking, there will be no more quiet moments!! And I have noticed that my guys have stopped most of their twin babbling.

 Absolutely no need to worry! They will start before you know it. Making animal sounds or different sounds or gestures for things counts as talking if you are ever evaluated for speech services, so watch for/teach them to communicate that way, also.

All my kids have been late talkers. The girls have just now started saying things like cow, shoes, snack, bye-bye, and making animal sounds. There are a few things they say that I am sure they understand that I don't, and there are some things they say that other people don't understand hat I do, like their version of "What's that?"

Don't worry, when the language explosion starts it is incredible!

At 2 years old, I assessed how they were doing and talked to my pedi about it. Kevin was still doing what your 18 month olds are doing at 2 so we decided to contact Early Intervention. If you are still concerned I would talk to my pedi about it. You can read more about EI in the sticky thread at the top of this forum.

My girls only have a few words, "hi", "Joe" and "that" which they use consistently. What worries me more is that I don't think they understand very much. Like simple directions, body parts, etc. My girls were 10 weeks early so I try to remind myself of that, but it's good to know there are other late talkers out there.
