So our boys are 13.5 months old and I suppose it is time to say good bye to their bottles. They are drinking water out of sippie cups but spilling it everywhere. I tried to give them milk out of sippie cips but they spit it out. How did you all get rid of the bottles? Did you go cold turkey or start giving them sippies instead of bottles one at a time? Right now they still take an 8oz bottle when they wake up and before bed. Would I just give them milk in a sippie when they wake and before bed? If so is it the same amount? Sorry, so confused with this whole transition... no more formula and no more bottles! I would love some advice as to what you all did. Thanks

We are off the bottles completely as of a few nights ago. We started the transition a little after they turned 11 months (per pedi) with whole milk in a sip cup for lunch. Once they were used to that we did supper and than breakfast (morning bottle). Now in the past week we've done away with the bedtime bottle. We are trying to figure out what works best for our boys i.e. snack and milk before bed, just milk, none of the above. We had their 12 month shots yesterday and WHOA was it a bad night. I really wanted to give them bottles but didn't have any formula so we had a rough night getting them to bed. And now today they seem to have the sniffles so I'm crossing my fingers it's not another bad night. Tonight we did a snack, cheerios, and milk about an hour before they go down, so 7pm, and now we're doing baths and then it's books and bedtime. Hopefully this will become the nightly routine. Good luck with your transition!

For my two I did cold turkey. :good: I thought that would work better for them. It did take them a few days to get adjusted to drinking milk out of their sippies, and they didn't drink that much but about a week later they were back to drinking their normal amount. Good luck!!

I transitioned at 15 months. I did it gradually (they were one 3 bottles a day), starting with the afternoon bottle that replaced by a sippy of milk ( we were doing 3 sippies of milk a day at that time to get their weight up) the following week, the am bottle replaced by a sippy, and then the bedtime bottle replaced by a sippy. I did keep it at the original amounts and mine did wind up drinking less milk for a few days after each bottle was dropped but then they picked it back up. I also add Carnation Instant Breakfast to their milk for extra vitamins and calories.

I was lucky. DS stopped wanting his bottle at 10.5 months and we never looked back. As he didnt want his, I removed DD´s also (first her evening bottle then she gave up her morning bottle on her own). They went onto having thier milk from sippies and now have a cup. GL!

Mine didn't really have issues with spitting anything out of their mouth after they drank. However, we conquered one meal at a time. We started with snack time and water. Then, we moved to lunch, breakfast, and dinner. You can go cold turkey if you want. If they are truly thirsty, they will drink it.

I transitioned mine around 7 months?? I can't remember, it's a blur. But, I would only give them formula - no water in their sippy cups a couple times a day. My oldest took any type of cup, same with my twin girl, my son was the picking one that took me forever to figure out what one he would finally take.

I would suggest, if you haven't already, trying different cups.

We did it cold turkey and never looked back. Jakc especially loves his milk and could care less what form it is delivered in. I actually have to be more careful with him now because I feel like I am always refilling the cups and he isn't supposed to have too much milk b/c of poop issues. James had a slightly harder time when we switched, but within a day he realized he wasn't get the bottle and took the cups no problem. They were about 11 months at the time.
