so i'm very excited to get Santa pictures with the girls this year and was just wondering, for those of you who have already been through this, do you have any tips or tricks for helping it go smoothly? any thoughts on what i might expect?

hey there - I have no tips or tricks, but my b/g twins are close to the same age as yours and I've decided to wait until next year to do the santa pics. I'd rather have them nap than get tired and overstimulated when I'm out. I don't like fussy babies, and I pick and choose where and when I go somewhere these days. Until they get older and take less naps a day.

I didn't take my girls last year b/c my girls were born in late October so they were only 2 months old on Xmas day. I wasn't good enough at taking them out on my own at 2 months to be able to stand in a line at the mall.

However, my mom wants to take them this year so I told her she was more than welcome to take them as many times as she wants! I will be staying home! They have stranger anxiety now, so I can imagine how well sitting on a strange man's lap is going to go after waiting in a long line!

Post the pics after you take your girls! Yours are still young enough that they probably won't cry! Or if they do it's not b/c they are scared of Santa!

I'm going to try with all of my kids this year. I think the key is avoiding a line and just not expecting perfection. There's something humorous about a less than perfect experience. . . Just make it fun and low stress is my motto.

I have to agree with Emily, we plan on taking the kids during a weekday afternoon when the mall is not busy and we don't expect much. They did well with the Easter bunny but they were 3 months old when that occurred, so they kind of just were looking around.

I'm planning on bringing them and I don't expect them to be smiling in the picture. I think it's cute when I see a Santa picture and the kids are crying. I'm going to try to avoid long lines too. I'm hoping to time it around a nap. We are doing their first professional pics this weekend too. I'm more nervous about that, because I'd like to get some nice ones. We'll see how it goes.

we went the year they were born (they were born sept 30th)
i went with my sister and Bil with there son
we were the first in line and the twins were the first on Santa and Mrs Clauses laps.
They slept thru the whole thing :D
we skipped it last year and are thinking about doing it this year.
just hate standing in line, the kids could melt down by than.

here is the picture from 2006

I have discovered a whole new way to accomplish this task
Instead of doing the mall santa, we always make reservations for breakfast with Santa
I'm not sure what other places still have this long-standing tradition, but we always go to the Rainforest Cafe
They do it for 3 weekends in a row at 8am Saturday morning
It's great because they get to warm up to the idea of Santa, and you can bring your own camera...so pics are free
and Santa walks around to all the tables while you eat
It's a buffet... so it's one price for kids and one for adults
And we have always had a good time
No lines, and the kids aren't so freaked with their one opportunity to get it right
    Anyway, it's worth looking into

My boys were 5 months when they first met Santa. One slept through the entire thing, the other did fine. The next 2 years did not go well (I have a great pic of them crying on SAnta's lap at 18 months) and finally at almost 3.5, they did great this year. I say go with no expectations and have fun. What will be, will be. Just enjoy regardless of how the babies react :)!!!!

Go on a weekday and do it soon. I would not even attempt a weekend at the mall for Santa after Thanksgiving.

I am also going to take my LO's during a time I know is not busy at the mall. I would suggest freshly napped and fed babies too :). I'd love to see the pics!

My boys are almost the same age as yours and we did our Santa pictures in the mall last week.
It came out really well. My boys slept in the car when we drove to the mall. We then did some shopping, fed them and then went straight to take the picture. They were quite alert and active and posed really well. I don't have a scanned copy of the picture...Will scan soon and post it.

I took DD#1 when she was only a month and a half old. I brought a couple bottles and went early. She was sleeping in the pic but at that age, it's actually cute to see her sleeping in his arms. That is actually one of the VERY few pics I have of either of my older kids left from when they were babies. (Bad move to Honduras, lost everything...)
