sandwiches...they couldn't eat them!

Ok, I've been so frustrated with tearing up meat and cheese, etc for lunch, so we tried sandwiches. Obviously the food fell out and it was still a huge mess- UNTIL NOW! I've made the greatest discovery, feeling like a dummy though, I can't believe it took me so long! I have the Pampered Chef cut-n-seal...and it had never been opened! I used 2 slices of wheat bread with ham and cheese and then put a little butter on top after I cut the sandwich. I put it in the toaster oven and it melted the cheese and browned the top! Now it's a nifty little ham-n-cheese pocket that they hold and it doesn't get all over!!! Maybe I'm just late in figuring this out, but thought I'd share!

Sandwiches are a waste for us too. They just peel them apart and eat it all separately. I think I may have to check that out!!

Not saying in the end it didn't end up a little picked apart, but definitely worth it and quick!! I premade them and just popped them in the toaster oven for lunch. You could even put veggies in it or fruit I suppose! I'm so excited over a little tiny thing! ha ha..Doesn't take much these days!

I can't tell what the cut n seal does for you...can you do the same thing by making grilled cheese with ham or turkey without having the cut n seal? Or does the cut n seal add something?

It cuts them in a circle and crimps the edges shut. I used mine for the firtst time this week too (great minds think alike :icon_biggrin: ) Mine also don't like sandwiches but liked their "pocket", also I think it is easier for their little nads to hold it because it is smaller and you don't have to try to keep it together.

great way to make your own uncrustables too!! I have one, but mine don't eat anything but PB so, I'll have to see if I can trick them LOL!!

That's a really good idea, I usually use a pizza cutter and cut off the crust which kind of seals it and then I grill it. I am still holding the sandwich for them though while they take bites. Sometimes I feel like it's easier to stand there and hold the sandwich than it is to clean up the mess they make afterward. :D

Just a word of caution. When you grill them, the cheese inside can get REALLY hot, so make sure to cool it!

I have a quesadilla maker that I got for my wedding that DH and I would use every once in a blue moon....but since I figure out the girls will eat them...it's pretty much been living on my counter! I save the left over taco meat/fajita meat that we'd had from the night before and thought I'd give it a shot, they ate it!

And then I discovered you could put lunch meat and cheese in it too ;)

I love it when you figure out a way to get them to eat something new!

Great idea! I might have to look for one; mine will usually eat sandwiches, but they just lose it if the sandwich falls apart.....they think it's "broken". Wonder if those would help keep everything together?

can the cut n seal be used for cold sandwiches. my girls are starting preschool in the fall and i need lunch ideas to send w/ them.

Yes, it can be used for cold sandwiches. The biggest key is to make sure the bread is soft. A harder bread will tend to rip when it crimps--does that make sense?

Marcus will now make his own PB&J with it :)

I just ordered one of these a few weeks ago for the exact same reason. I had read about it and thought it would be perfect for making homemade "pockets." Glad to hear that it works! :) In the meantime we have been using tortillas and wrapping food inside and warming them up...kind of like burritos. I wrap a paper towel around it and they eat it like that. They love it. It makes them feel so much more "grown up" since it's not cut up into little pieces.

My bf would make a sandwich, then flatten it with say a rolling pin, then roll it so it was easy for them to hold in their little hands.
