So I am 14 weeks pregnant with twins. First pregnancy ..and I just learned that Salicylic acid in facial cleansers are a no-no. I have been using L`Oreal 360 Clean cream cleanser everyday! What should I do? Should I be concerned??
    Thank you for the help

Congrats on your twins! Welcome to TS.

I would just stop using it. It well prob be fine. You can't do anyting while pregnant now. Makes me wonder how people in the 1800's had babies.....

There are no studies that report any harmful effects of salicylic acid in a topical preparation during pregnancy. It is the main ingredient in aspirin, and most Dr's will allow some aspirin until the3rd trimester. The risk of it's use is bleeding. The have been no studies to prove any kind of defects to babies with the use of salicylic acid. Retinol can cause issues IF you also consume a lot of vitamin A, but even that can be used sparingly. I say, do everything you can to have a healthy pregnancy and be informed, but look for proof. If we all paid attention to how much pollution and chemicals are in the air we breathe and water we drink, we would not have children at all, in my opinion. I would not worry about your face lotion. Have a wonderful, healthy pregnancy!

if it's just a facial wash, not something you're wearing all day/night, it should be ok. even with the lotions, not much of the chemical is actually absorbed

I used this occasionally during my pregnancy and had no problems. I ended up getting a prescription from my dermatologist for Finacea (they knew I was pregnant, and this is the only one they would prescribe). I was having a fair amount of skin problems during pregnancy and it helped.

I'm just curious, where did you learn that salicylic acid is a no-no? I use it in my toner at night (I'm 23 weeks pg with twins). I've never heard it is not good for pregnancy. I do remember being told to avoid retinols, that's about it.

they just don't know much about its effects on pregnancy, so most Drs will tell you not to use it

hmmm, I see. I read so many conflicting things about it. Where it isn't enough to be absorbed through the skin, and some sites said to avoid completely. It's just one of those things that never even crossed my mind. I always heard to stay away from retinoids, but not the salicylic acid. I guess it's a question for our doctors. I'll have to definitely ask at my next appointment!

If we worried about everything in What to Expect, we'd all spend pregnancy in a padded cell :escape: There's only so much you can worry about!
