I posted before about my situation with baby b having problems and you all have just been wonderful - I just wanted to know if any of you knew where I could go to educate myself about it.
Since baby b has issues and there is a chance they will not make it - where can I find out the effect of that on baby a?

I just have so much going on in my head and am so scared - Iwas hoping you ladies might be able to help...

    Thank You again

I have no direction on where to point you, just encouraging words.. Alot of pregnancy actually start out with multiple sacs (and the mom never even knows) and one just doesnt develop and that is why many doctors don't like to diganose twins so early on, or is they do the give the "don't get your hopes up" and then tall about vanishing twin syndrome..

So I think your sweet Baby A should be perfectly healthy and in love with you..

    Hugs.

    Joanna,

This depends on a few things. I am not a Dr., but have you talked to your Dr. about this?

    How far along are you?

Do they know if the sacks indicate monochorionic or dichorionic (in the same placenta, or two placentas?)

This is what I've read previously, again, I am NOT a Dr, just what I remember reading on webmd and the such.

From what I've read, if the twins are dichorionic in the first or early second trimester, it will usually not cause any problems with you at all, and will almost never cause you to miscarry. You may have some discomfort and feel like you might be beginning to miscarry when you are not.

If the twins are dichorionic and it happens later, it can affect the other twin, but again, the risk is slight- there is more risk of harm to the mother with coagulation, etc. (like after 17 weeks).

I THINK even if they are monochorionic if in the first trimester there is slighter risk of harm to the other, but not that bad... (after the mid second trimeseter if they are monochorionic that is when the risk sets in.) You do not have to worry about and anyt sort of neurological damage to the surviving twin unless it is after mid-second trimester and if the twins were monochorionic.

Here are a few articles on it:

Are you wondering about the emotional effect on Baby A? I don't know your whole story or how far along you are. Although it was early in the pregnancy, my mom miscarried my twin. I knew this all my life, but was never negatively affected by it. In fact, it was something that I thought made me special, that I had a brother or sister in another part of the universe watching over me.

Thank you all for your responses - my OB has not said if they share 1 placenta but I don't believe they do. I believe there are 2 seperate sacs and placentas...
I'm trying to find information everywhere but it's not easy...I'll keep plugging away..

    Thank You all so much!
