Just wondering if there's an age when kids who are going to climb out are most likely to do it. It seems like I see a lot of posts where the twins are around 2.5, which is right around the corner for us. Also, were your kids climbers in general?

Amy likes to brace her arms on the attached dresser and lift her body up several inches. She still mostly stays in the crib, and I think the sleep sack would make it harder to get her leg that far up, but mostly the only thing stopping her is that it hasn't occurred to her to completely climb out yet.

Mine were 14 months. Still crazy climbers.

My DS started climbing out of his crib around 10 months. The girls have tried but never succeeded (thankfully). They all can climb over the baby gate though. <_<

Mine were 22/23 months and I really think it happened because Evan was still having night terrors once or twice a night and I think he got scared because I woke to him crying in the hallway trying to get into my SD's room when he saw me he ran into my arms. I just put up crib tents that night so he wouldn't do it again and Ian wouldn't try, now that I think about it the night terrors stopped very shortly after that.

    15 months here! :p

Yes, they're climbers in general AND they can climb in and out easily now with or without a sleep sack.

27 months for my oldest. I know he probably could of dome it earlier, he just didn't put 2 and 2 together. He is a big climber. The twins are trying already. It won't be long.

26 months when Bea climbed out. Ainsley never made it out before we put the crib tents on. We plan on switching to beds at 3 yrs, we're going to give them beds for their third birthday.

Well, tonight during kisses & hugs, Amy lifted her entire body up and started to pull herself over the top of the dresser. When I said "Keep your feet down please," she said "I climb up there!" I distracted her somehow. I still don't think she's thinking escape, but if she's thinking "how far can I climb," then escape is going to happen whether she wants it or not! I almost pushed the jumping mattress up against her bed in case she did fall out, but I was afraid that would just give her ideas.

So, I just ordered one crib tent. I figured I'd start with that, especially since I have no idea if it will fit Amy's crib (which has two solid ends, plus the attached dresser). The Cozy Crib Tent I (not II) is $42 at Walmart.com if anyone's interested. ;)

Our cribs have two solid ends also and the Crib Tent II fit fine but they were expensive, I think $70 each. We have Babee Tenda cribs and they are a little bigger to where I didn't think the tent was going to fit but it's great.

We haven't had an escapee yet but I think DS is getting there. He lifts his leg straight out to the side and gets his toes to the top of the rail. I'm not sure what I would do, a tent or go to a toddler bed... I think it will depend how soon it is.

OK you are all scaring me with how early your kids climbed out!! I guess we will need crib tents soon too since Natalie is a little monkey - good thing she is so short  (5%)

My 3 1/2 is still in a crib and has never even tried!

Alexis tried it at 18 months after I said no, and flop! on the ground she went, poor thing. She never tried again although she would want to when she didnt want to go to bed. I would remind her of the pain of falling and she would stop trying to climb. We transitioned them into twin beds at 2.5 without ever having a climbing issue. Never used crib tents.

Michael climbed out at 11 months. Finally got to the point I moved him into a toddler bed, was safer at least. Then he climbed in the other crib and on top of his twin, so I moved Matthew to a toddler bed too. That was in june last year, so he was 16 months.

Abby was 25 months and Bridget never even considered climbing. I got them crib tents because They stopped taking naps. Abby would climb out and bother Bridget. Abby woke every night and ended up in our bed until the crib tent. She feels safe in it and doesn't even cry when she wakes in the middle of the night now. They have been real lifes savers. Iprobably didn't need to get Bridget a tent but she wanted to be like Abby now they get mad if the tents aren't zipped up. I worry about moving them to toddler bed because Abby is so happy in her tent. Does anyone have any advise?

Both of mine were about two and a half when they started climbing out of their cribs. My ds would actually climb out of his and then climb into his sister's crib. My dd would just stay on the ground once she got out. We have a cast iron radiator (we live in an old house) in their room so once they started climbing out, we went straight to convertible beds.

I know we wouldn't have made it as long as we did if their legs hadn't been so short. They would go up to chairs and such and hold their leg as high as they could to see if they could put their foot up (and holy moly are they flexible -- both can still do the splits). If they could get that foot up, they were climbing. It was literally the first time I'd seen Trevor put his foot up on the rail when I saw him going over (and I looked up too late to catch him). I knew it was coming based upon their climbing skills and I'd already ordered the crib tents so that one time was the only time he fell. Now they climb in and out so easily that I don't discourage it other than during sleep times when the tent is zipped closed... so I'm really just using the tents as little sleep prisons :rotflmbo:

Tabitha was also small (3%), but boy could she climb!! She did it for the first time at 11 months, and we went and got crib tents the next day. I was too paranoid for anything else.

Mine were both just over 2 years old. They were definitely climbers but I don't think it occurred to them to climb out of the crib until they did it with the pnp.

My son started climbing out around 26 months. He was not a daredevil or a climber and one night just didn't want to go to bed. We put him in his crib and went into the living room to visit with my mom who was visiting from out of town and down the hall he comes. He did this another 3 or 4 times and finally we converted the bed because I was scared he was going to slip and hurt himself. That's when all the fun has come. We still have a very hard time with him at night when it's bedtime. We've tried everything and he won't just lay down and go to sleep like his sister.
