So I got a few small things of Easter candy for the kids and DS is apparantly going crazy at home wanting only those peeps or chocolate. We do not really do candy at our house, 'cuz I binge. But for special occations, its kinda a tradition, Easter, halloween etc...so how do I deal with little ones who will throw a fit to get some?

He was maniac after having a few peeps so I understand my DH not wanting him to have any this morning.

I personally tossed it all. The kid want it, DH eats it, and I am utterly tempted by it. It isn't worth it. Ben had one girl scout cookie a few weeks ago and instantly learned the word "cookie." (He only knows a handful of words.) So all day long it is cookie, cookie, cookie. I am not ready to add "candy" to his repertoire yet!!!!

I just deal with the fits. For any holiday that includes candy, they can have it for a few days (3 at the most) and then it disappears. They can have it after lunch, at snack time and possibly after dinner for those few days and then it's gone. Usually I hide it out of sight of the little ones so that once they've eaten what I gave them, I just say all gone for now and they are okay. I learned from a dentist and our ped when my first was young that most recommend a few day binge with good teeth brushing over a piece or two a day dragged out over weeks. If we were having serious fits, I'd throw it away after the first day!

I try to put lots of little toys/items in the basket and only fill in with a small amount of candy. All of our candy leftovers from events (wrapped stuff that won't go bad) go into one of those giant bears (the ones that come with animal crackers) and get put up high in the pantry. For J&H, out of sight - out of mind. They remember once in a while & ask for some candy and they get to pick a piece or 2. And anything from Valentines forward that is well wrapped and still edible I use as filler for my Halloween candy bowl - that way I can buy just one big bag of the good candy bars and still have lots of stuff to give out to each kid. If you don't want to trash it, you can hide it and just tell them it's all gone, they will catch on & stop begging eventually. Then you can just give them a piece here or there - or eat it all yourself ;)

I didn't get very much candy for them this year. Whatever wasn't eaten by bedtime we tossed in the garbage.

We are tossing it all today. I let my girls have what was offered to them while they were with family and some candy a few other times, but now we are getting rid of it all. It is not worth it to have it in the house.

I left some M&M's at home and brought the rest to work today and let my co-workers eat it all!!

I didn't give the kids any candy (they got coloring books, puzzles, kites, etc.) But that doesn't mean I don't have any in the house -- I had no willpower in the store and bought lots of my favorites (barely have eaten any though). I sent DH off to work with a big box of coconut eggs, but still have lots of candy around. And I'm restarting my diet today!!!

I put it in baggies and on the top shelf in the pantry. They havent wanted it. It will probably go to the trash soon.

We have containers that you can't see through. After a few days all the candy gets combined and put up and eventually forgotten about and then dumped.

While we have it, I let them eat it when they ask (as long as it's after breakfast), and it is limited to 1 or 2 pieces. Then they don't feel like I take everything away all the time.

We have a candy drawer (that REALLY needs cleaned out. I'm pretty sure it still has Halloween candy in it). Anyway, the day after Easter I put the baskets up so the kiddos can't see them. If they've eaten well all day, then they're allowed one piece after dinner. I'll do that for a few days, then it goes into our drawer where it's (obviously!!!) forgotten about. I should just get rid of that darned thing...:umm:

On Easter I let mine have much more then usual. Since then, I've put it away and I'll dole it our sparingly. I don't mind them have some, as long as they're eating other healthy foods first.
