I felt horrible!! He started standing about a week ago and I never thought he could fall out :( He was fine and crawling to the door when I walked in. He only cried for a minute or two. I think he was more scared than hurt. I need to lower the mattress before tonight. Did this happen to anyone else before? Korey never fell out of his crib.

This exact thing happened to Nate. I heard a "thump" and a cry, and by the time I got to the nursery, he was crawling across the floor to me. My heart just about stopped. Needless to say, we lowered the mattress that day.

I'm sorry your this happened to your DS (and you!), but I'm sure he's fine. Time to break out the tools and lower that mattress!

Yes, it happened to a friend of mine. She came over one day and saw that I hadn't lowered the mattresses yet and she said that it was time. My boys were barely 5 months old but they were doing pushups to peer over the side and she said that was all her boy did before he took the dive. Oh, and she also said not to bother with the middle setting because it's such a hassle to drop the mattresses and they'd progress to standing soon enough that it isn't worth the trouble for a few weeks of medium reach. She was right about that -- they were standing 8 weeks later.

I'm sorry that you had to go through such a scare but glad he's OK.

 My ds also fell out, but I had already lowered the mattress to the lowest setting! To this day we have no clue how he did it! There was nothing for him to stand on, nothing to crawl on, and he was 10 months old when he did it!

We were doing CIO and he was in our bedroom still (he was used to sleeping in the bed with me and it was time for him to sleep in the crib), we figure he got mad and just climbed out! He also had a footie sleeper on, no bare feet. I'm still puzzling over how he did it! ;)

thanks everyone for making me feel better! My DH lowered the mattress but he stands and the rail is at his chest? Shouldn't it be lower? I think my DH put it on the middle setting maybe? I am still so worried but he doesn't think he can fall over now. What do you think?

Mine are at chest high, and we're at the middle setting. They haven't come close to climbing out yet. We'll probably move the mattresses down in the next few months because they're growing like weeds and getting very athletic. Especially Nate, who we've dubbed "Climber". ;)
