WARNING, this can get detailed… I had 4 days in a row of feeling great… I thought because I’m in the middle of 11 weeks that it was just time for the nausea to start going away… I would wake up and instead of killing myself to get protein in me so I didn’t throw up I could slowly walk down and eat something with in 30 min… this pregnancy I haven’t thrown up (except when I got a slight cold… I would cough and that would lead to a gag witch would lead to me throwing up and fainting). Well Monday –Thursday were great… I thought I was on the tail end… around 5:00pm I was done for the day and would just veg but the nausea was barley noticeable… well Thursday night… I got a BIG headache went to bed early (like 7pm) woke up at 11pm and threw up every 45 -60 min from then on (even if there was nothing in me)…. Okay… I’m pregnant… pregnant women throw up… but my husband said when I fainted I started to convulse and I would lock my mouth closed and he (while I’m passed out and my body is still throwing up) would have to take his hand and try to force my mouth open because he thought I was going to choke on it… he learned, after a few attempts, that if he just made me lean forward it would just come out my nose… I know VERY gross… well by 11am on Friday, he was VERY concerned (more for the fact it couldn’t be good for me to be fainting and my body reacting like that every hour for 12 hours) and he called my ob and gave him every gross detail… and he was only concerned about my hydration… but he said we need to get her to stop throwing up I’m prescribing something for her to take… then don’t force food on her, she can go a day or 2 with out that… I want sports drinks and soup in her… if she doesn’t stop by Saturday am take her to the hospital for an i.v. …. so my question, have any of you had to take medication for throwing up? I took one of the pills (because at that point I wanted to die I was in so much pain) and I haven’t thrown up since 1pm on Friday… but that was the most miserable 12 hours in my life and if I get sick like that again… I don’t think I have it in me to endure; I will pop one of those pills (which I read was usually for chemotherapy/radiation treated patient… seems harsh). I’m the type who gave up coffee completely, even though my Dr. said I can have one 8 oz cup of caffeine in 24 hr period… when I get headache I try to sleep them off instead of taking Tylenol (which I know is ok to take). I just try to do everything I can to give these little guys (or girls) the best I can… and taking this pill made me feel like I gave up… like I scarified them for me… I guess I need some hand holding right now… any thoughts would be GREATLY appreshiated.

I'm sorry you're feeling sick :hug99: . It's better for you to not be sick so don't feel bad about the medicine. You are doing a great job at taking care of your babies. I hope you feel better soon :hug99: .

I hope you feel better soon. Your doctor gave you the medicine to take and wouldn't have done so if he/she did not think it was safe for you and the babies. Take care of yourself, rest, and get plenty of fluids.

That’s what my husband kept saying… he said its not like the Dr. is doing experimental drug testing on you… he’s been doing this for 20 + years and he has the highest rate of twin in our area (by pure coincidence  ). Thank you for the encouragement… I really am just thankful my husband works from home and was able to take care of me (and our son) yesterday… thank you again… :)

Were you prescribed Zofran? I have a few friends who taking it - it is safe!! And it is better that you take it and NOT throw up and are hydrated than not take it and be dehydrated. Please, don't be afraid to take it!

I hope you feel better SOON!!

I was hospitalized three times for severe dehyrdation while pregnant before I was willing to take the Zofran. I was miserable and just couldnt take it anymore. I took it from 12 weeks until they were born at 31 weeks. Every single day. My boys are big, healthy, happy almost 5 year olds now!

If the Dr. gave you Zofran, I encourage you to take it. It is safe and you need to feel good to stay healthy for the babies! I know how you feel! :hug99: It will be okay!

I am RX illiterate (as I TRY not to take them) but the bottle says: ondansetron 8mg.

But my very factual dh said, "your only beating yourself up now because you feel better… you need to remember you could have choked on your vomit if I wasn’t here… and you do the babies no good dead" (way to be blunt hun)

and thank you for the well wish... i am feeling better, just VERY weak

I was so sick starting around were you are. My doctor prescribed me the same medication and I had the same concern about its original use but like so many of the ladies on here have already said it is better to take the pill and feel better. Plus my Dr. told me that she could give me something weaker but in her experience twin pregnancies don’t tend to respond as well to any of the lower level nausea meds. You definitely don’t want to end up in the hospital dehydrated. I have been taking the pills the whole time I have been pregnant (tried to stop a couple times and it was horrible) and babies are fine. Hang in there and feel better. *hugs*

I took Zofran and Reglan for more than 2/3rds of my pregnancy. My babies were born at 39 weeks 4 days and are a-ok! Don't wait for the nausea to come back, take it as perscribed because the rebound was always worse than the morning sickness for me at least!

Hang in there!!! I'm sure pure exhaustion has something to do with you feeling guilty right now--you don't have anything to feel guilty about. You're doing your best for the babies, even if you're having to change plans along the way. Get rest, and don't beat yourself up!

I take a tylenol and a unasom at night, with permission of my OB. At first, I felt really guilty, too. But the extra strength that I've gained from good night's sleep, at least some of the time, has been worth it.

Thank you, I was JUST thinking…what would be worse right now, 2 days of no liquid and food or this pill… I have been able to eat just fine since last night and have already put away 64 oz of Gatorade … but haven’t peed yet (sorry if TMI).
I was just talking to my Mom and she was reminding me how they didn’t stop taking anything when they were pregnant, and yes they have learned a lot from that, but my whole generation is a generation of moms who drank alcohol and smoked cigarettes… and by the pack from what my mom tell me…

Thank you… I think I just need to focus on all the positive things I have done during this pregnancy instead of what I THINK was negative… I also have to remember my son wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my ob… he saved his life, and had to go down fighting for me to do so… so if he says take the pill I have to have faith… Thank you again.

Yes, that is Zofran. The pp is right, you need to stay on top of it. The rebound can be terrible. If it is the 8mg than you only need to take it every 9 hours or so. I would take one in the morning and then another late in the afternoon. They are very safe. Your babies need you to eat in order to grow! Hang in there! You can do it! :hug99:

TAKE IT! I refused for a number of reasons (too expensive and seemed too dramatic) until my DR threatened to put me in the Hospital and charge 2X as much and when I said "they don't know what this does to a fetus" she replied "They know what dehydration does! You will miscarry!" I took the Zofran. I was still terribly sick, but carried the baby(s). TAKE IT!

I took it for all four of my daughters and my first two (5 and 7) are BRILLIANT (if I do say so myself...and their teachers....) My second two are only 11 mo, so we don't know if they are brilliant - but it's looking good!
    TAKE IT!

Elizabeth, :hug99: I know how you feel (w/o the fainting and convulsing)! I was on Zofran for my ENTIRE pregnancy!! 36 weeks 2 days! I threw up for the last time on the operating table (already strapped down and having to only turn my head to the anesthesiologist who was suctioning it out of the bedpan as I barfed - NICE! - how's that for details :winking0009: ? ) Eating crackers before removing my head from the pillow.....I remember it all too well. :hug99:

It was the ONLY thing I could do to have any sort of a life. I drove around with gallon ziplocks and empty shopping bags in case I was to be sick on the road. I was on my way home from getting IV fluids and drank a bit of a Frosty from Wendy's and my husband had to pull over....you get the picture.

ON Zofran the vomitting was minimal and gave me some freedom to be out and about. I never hit the 12 week honeymoon! My OB told me to try and I felt like I had to fight for every prescription.

OH! The important thing.....my kids appear to be just fine at 31 mos. There's no sign that anything happened as a result. I hope you won't have to be on it for the entire pregnancy, but just wanted you to know that we are all fine afterwards! Good luck!! :hug99:

    "Yes, that is Zofran. "

ok then, that makes me feel EVEN better after everyone replied that’s what they took... i almost called my Dr. to ask if i can get an RX for that since everyone one here had success with it  ... but like i said earlier I’ve always been RX illiterate... I’ll blame it on the pregnancy hormones... there should be something i can use this pregnancy for.... OH i'll blame it also on my typying/edit skills :pardon:

I called my ob after everyone warned me about the rebound, and he said, well lets just give it the chance that this was a freak of nature/ bad day, but if you have even one “episode” take it and keep taking it every 12 hours and call me on Monday to talk about it. So I felt weak all day yesterday, took 2 LONG naps… my poor son sat on his butt all day as my husband had to make up from taking all day Friday off to save me and his soccer games were canceled due to the air quality… poor guy :( … but around 5:00 a friend from his class ... and parents called asked if we wanted to get some burgers and go to Bonny Island (it’s a house in the San Fernando Valley that goes CRAZY with Halloween decoration… they are in the entertainment industry so it is really cool)…sorry… back to the topic  … and I said lets try… I was able to eat half my burger and frozen yogurt and got home by 9:00 with a killer headache but NO nausea… BUT because of your posts I put the pills right on the bathroom counter with a glass of water and vowed if I tossed my cookies… I was taking the pill and not second guessing myself… well it is now 6am… still no nausea  (hinting… but not like I have to stay close to the bathroom)… So THANK YOU… you all gave me confidence that I needed… and held my hand... OH and i am very glad to hear your children are brilliant... i am was hoping for healthy... but you raised my bar :a_smil09:

Thank you… and I’m glad (sorry Misery Loves Company ;) ) that someone else had a gross throw up story… I always have grocery bags in my car too. I learned that because I discovered my nausea/fainting when I was on the pill. The first day of the cycle gave me morning sickness (for only one day) and the first time it happened I went to work… decided I had to leave because I couldn’t keep throwing up at work)… threw up on the freeway (it’s the only time I was thankful for southern cali bumper to bumper traffic)… and woke up from my faint with cars honking at me… luckily I drove a stick back then and stalled the car… but ever since then (and having a 9 year old who loves to eat AND then run) I kept grocery bags in my car…
I hope too I don’t have to take this the whole pregnancy, but am feeling more comfortable about it now knowing I’m not alone… and you all went on to have happy healthy babies... this site ROCKS!!! I wish I had it when I was young and bedridden my first go around… I swear I think I was bedridden from stressing and feeling very confused the whole pregnancy… thank you again…
