Okay so to start off my name is Tara and have a DS who is 2.5 y/o. Easy pregnancy no problems not even m/s. So I just found out about 2 weeks ago that I am expecting twins in June. I run about 2 miles a day 4 times a week. I am not bleeding or cramping or anything so is it safe to continue with this? I had my first visit with my OB/Gyn before I found out I was expecting 2 and when it was only a singleton then she said that was fine just to stay well hydrated. Does this change since it's twins? I have cut back and now only do 1.5 miles running and the rest walking?

Hi Tara & :welcome: to Twinstuff!
    Congratulations on your twin pregnancy!

I would be sure to get the OK from your OB before continuing with your current workout/running schedule.
I had some pretty specific rules set out from my OB as to what was OK & what wasn't ~ always good to check with them first :good:

My doc told me that since I was having twins, he didn't want me to do anything other than walking or swimming. With my previous pregnancies, he told me that I could keep my activity level pretty much the same. I think the extra weight of the babies puts a lot more strain on your cervix. At 9 weeks I don't know if that would factor in at all, but I would at least put a call into your doctors office and see what they have to say.

I'm amazed you have the energy! My hat is off to you!

    :welcome: to TS.

I was also running about the same you do before I got pregnant. I got really sick at about 8 weeks and had terrible migranes for a couple months so I stopped running. After that, the doc did not want me running either. Low impact only, swimming and walking.

    Good luck.

Thank you everybody for your responses. Alison- Would you have/been allowed to continue running had you not gotten sick and had to stop for a few months?

I ran until 19 weeks and walked a few miles a day until 30 weeks but I did get the Ok from the doc to continue at 7 weeks (I did IVF) So to be safe I would talk to your doc first but its definatley possible the only reason I stopped was becasue it was the middle of summer and it was freaking hot and I had a hard time staying hydrated GL and congrats

I would definitely talk to your dr. about this. If you do go running make sure you stay very very hydrated, and I would invest in some sort of device to measure your heart rate, so that you can keep it in the range it is supposed to be at. (I want to say no higher than 130, but don't quote me on this).

not sure. I was too sick to even think about it. :bad:

    I'd definately ask your OB.

I think it has more to do with your body temp than anything. I don't think you ar supposed to let your body temp get too high. Better to be safe than sorry.

I used to run, but after a while it hurt my chest so bad after about 11 weeks. So, now I do the ellyptical (sp?). it feels better. I asked my Dr. and he said, "Listen to your body and it will tell you what you want to do." That is what Ihave been doing and no problems so far. I am still exercising like a nut.
