About a year ago I found out from the girls that DH had left them parked outside a store (like within site), while he went into a store, I woz so upset about this and told him so (things can happen just because they're insight doesn't mean they're safe). Anyhow he promised never to do this again.

Well I just took one of the girls to the bank, and she said mom are u leaving me in the van, I said OF COURSE NOT and she said "daddy does" I can't believe it.

What do I do besides not let him take out the girls which obviously I can't do as he is their dad.

I"m not asking for a debate about is it ok to leave ur kids in the car I know some moms do and its their choice, but my DH know its something I'm very strongly against..

I feel like if I sit him down to discuss it he'll just say he won't do it again to keep the peace but then he will.

In California we have this law:

On January 1, 2002, California adopted a state law (SB255) to outlaw leaving children unattended in a vehicle. If a child aged 0-6 years is left unattended in the vehicle, the responsible adult will be fined $100. Nine states have adopted laws regarding not leaving children unattended in motor vehicles.

Do you have any type of law, where you could say hey- this is illegal and you need to stop doing it?

Otherwise, I would sit him down and try to calmly discuss how this makes you feel and "what if" something was to happen to the kids when he did it.

    I agree with Nicole.
I would tell the girls to insist that daddy takes them in wherever he goes.

That is so frustraiting and I know how you feel.

Too many things could possibly happen to the girls... and they are old enough that it shouldn't be a burden for him to have them go where ever he goes... it's not like they are infants and he'd have to get the stroller out and all that.

I think you need to have another heart to heart with him. Also, talk to your daughters and tell them that they should insist they need to get out and stay with their father.

Once my Dad took Noam with him to pick-up some take-out dinner. Noam fell asleep in the car... so my Dad left him in the car while he got the food. I had asked him if Noam fell asleep on the way, and he said yes. I asked him if he woke him up and he said no, that he left him in the car. I freaked out. I told him to please never do that again.. just wake the child and take the child with.

I think it's one of those things... our parents might have done it more when we were little... and car seats weren't the law then either... but these days things are different and we need to learn the rules of the road.

thanks everyone. We've had "the talk" he said he just did it the one time (obviously not sure to believe it as I've lost the trust for sure), although at 1st he claimed to not remember. I have told the girls that they are not to be left, but I don't want it to end up their responsibility, he is the adult.

DH knows I feel strongly about this also except we had a little different situation. DH does not drive because he is legally blind but thought it was ok while they were napping and I was out doing errands bank, etc to go to the store about 7 houses down and across the street with the monitor. Thankfully, he called me first asking if it was ok since I'm sure he knew I would not be ok with and of course I expressed my problem with him doing that and he's never "asked" again. I think men just really don't have that instict us mothers do and sometimes think things like that are ok.

You are right it should be their responsibility, but just train them well and they will make sure they tell daddy they are not to be left alone in the car. My DD will tell anyone in the vechile she is in that they need to put on their seatbelt, or in MIL's case she isn't supposed to take her's off until the car stops completely. What's worse about your DH doing it at this age, is it really wouldn't slow him down all that much to take them in. I can understand him doing it when they were infants and it would really have hindered him (not saying I agree with doing this at all, just that it would make more sense). I wouldn't be able to trust my DH to take them on short errands like this until he learns not to leave the kids. Why not use the drive thru at the bank?
