I normally just read the posts but I wanted to share our experience with RSV. My precious boys were born at 36.5 on Feb 1, 2008. We all went home on the 5th and had a peaceful 4 days at home. Then I went to the ER with pnmonia and an infection from my c-section. I was admitted to the hospital. 2 days later my hubby took the boys to the ER because Ethen was not breathing well. They did RSV testing on both boys to cover all bases and they both had it. Both were admitted to the hospital and put in precaution rooms on the childrens floor. Ethen pulled out of it ok and came home 3 days later but Deven did not. He went downhill and was admitted to the PICU the same day his brother was discharged. They had to put him on a ventilator and used other measures because he could not breath on his own. His lungs were so full of phlem and crap that they could not expand to breath and he was getting alot of air in his tummy. He was on the vent for 5 days and when they took him off he seemed to do ok. I got to hold him! The next day when I went to visit him, he had a full team surrounding his crib and they explained he was going back downhill. They put him back on the ventilator after 34 hours off. Hes now doing better and they think he can come off it in a few days after his lungs heal well. They say this year RSV is more rampant than ever and its hitting kids and infants hard. I wish someone had warned me that these measures might have to be taken if an infant gets this. It is just a cold/virus but some babies just cant handle it. Im a paramedic and have transported babies with this but to see it happen to my own just about kills me. But what really amazes me is how my ID boys both reacted different to this virus. One could tolerate it and one couldnt.

Wow, what a tremendous time you and your babies have had lately. I'm so sorry you all have been through this. And with them being to very young too. I hope everyone heals well and that your son still on the vent comes off quickly and heals completely. My cousins full term one month old daughter was just hospitalized for RSV also. It must be really bad this year just like the flu. Give your boys extra hugs and kisses when you get them home. I hope your healing well also. HUGE HUGS!!!!!

Wow thats so scary ! I'm glad he's doing better now. My own grandson spent a week in the hospital because of rsv with pnuemonia. I didnt think he was EVER going to get better, but finally did.
I've heard its a BIG problem this year, one of our local hospitals had 16 rsv patients at one time.

I hope your feeling better as well. I had to be re-admitted days after my c-section because of infection and it was the worst week of my life !

Thanks. Im getting my c-section site packed everyday because of the infection I had its not healing well. Other than that Im doing ok. The PICU head nurse said they have had 11 cases of RSV in there in the past month and they think its poss. they got it in the nursery after they were born. This is a life experience that I dont wish on anyone, but as the saying goes, This too shall pass.

I'm so sorry that you have been through all of this esp with them so young. :hug99:

Mine caught RSV as well. It has been a long road to recovery esp for my DS. He has the hardest time and is still fighting an ear infection because of it.

I really hope that your son comes home soon and that you all heal fast and well.

I'm so sorry. My neighbor's little girl born the same week as my twins is currently on the breathing machine in the hospital. She has pneumonia and influenza as well, and is having a very hard time pulling out of it. I'm so happy to hear your little man has turned the corner and is recovering. I hope you're all home and together as a healthy family very soon. Take care.
