My girls were born 6 weeks early last Nov, so ofcourse we got the rsv shots through April. I thought we were done with them, but the doctor's office called me yesterday to let me know they are calling my insurance to see if they'll cover shots again for this winter. Even if they do cover them, we still have to pay our pretty high deductible + 20% of total cost which equals to a lot of money we really can't afford.

Did many of you do a 2nd round of rsv shots? Does everyone think it's necessary? I just don't know that much about it. The doctor's office nurse said we should absolutely get them, but they say that about all shots/vaccines. :) I'm just trying to decide what to do. If it's really important, then ofcourse we'll figure out some way to cover the costs...

My boys were born 8 weeks early last December and we got them through March of this year. We do not qualify this year :( If we did I would definitely get them. I think they are well worth it not to get RSV or just a milder form.

I've been wondering about this too. Mine never got RSV shots. They were born 6 wks early. No major respiratory complications, but DD was intubated for a couple days and then on O2. So I'll be very curious to hear responses about how worthwhile it is to spring for the shots. I know they are VERY expensive.

Mine were born 9 weeks early and got the shots last season, but definitely won't qualify this year. If it were going to cost a substantial out of pocket amount to me to do it, I don't think we would. They are quite healthy, good size, and they don't go to daycare.

Last year our insurance covered it 100%.

My guys were 10 weeks early. Will actually had RSV even with the shots (only had two rounds). He was intubated for a week after coming out of the NICU. I have not heard from my ped yet, but I am thinking that at least Will will get Synagis, but not sure. I would certainly HOPE so!

My girls were 9 weeks early and were born in November last year. They qualified last year and I have been told that they will qualify again this year...I'm not sure about how much insurance will cover yet. They covered nearly all of the costs last year. In my opinion, they are definitely worth it, especially since my DDs are in daycare. My girls didn't have any major breathing problems at birth, but what I have read about RSV is pretty scary so I'm sure we'll do the Synagis for this season.

There are a few RSV shot threads in the NICU forum you may want to check out. My two were born 3 months early and qualified for them last winter. They won't be 2 until Feb, but our ped. called our insurance about it for this winter and sadly they don't qualify this winter, despite being born 3 months early. So we won't be getting them this season, which would have been our 2nd round.
