So the more I think about it...the more I think that these guys actually have RSV. (you can see my other post about my sweet sick babies). My question here is...

If it is RSV - how long is it contagious? Do they need to be symptom free or just fever free?

You see, today is my birthday and we are going to my mom's for dinner. I have a 12 week old niece and a nephew with CP, so his immune system is not so great. I need to know wether they should stay home or if it's really ok to come.

    Pleae help! Thanks so much!!

    Hey Rhea,

I read your other post about the bronchiolitis...from what I understand, that is what results from RSV. If it is RSV, it is very contagious, definately wouldn't want a 12 week old around it.

I found this link that has info on RSV.

I would not go around any newborns, especially a child with a weak immune system regardless, since they have been sick recently and are coughing still. Its too risky to expose innocent children right now

I hate to tell you this, but I think you should stay home! If they DO have RSV you need to get them to a DOCTOR!!

I wish you were having a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you can delay your celebration with your Mom!

    Happy Birthday! [IMG]

They probably do have RSV and that's what's causing the bronchiolitis...it's the most common virus to cause bronchiolitis and pneumonia in kids age 1 and under....as far as getting them to a doctor, since it's a virus they just have to "ride it out". The only thing you can treat are the symptoms (the fever, wheezing, etc.). My DD is on a steroid to decrease the inflammation in her throat that is causing the croupy cough and albuterol syrup to open up her little airways more. The RSV symptoms typically get worse until the 5th day, and then you see a decline. However, if they are having major problems breathing that's when they need to go to the hospital.....As far as how long they are contagious, I am not sure, but I need to know that too.....if I find out I will post, but I agree I would not bring them around any other kids for awhile...hope they all get better soon!

One of my guys has brionchiolitis too. the doc didn't test specifically for RSV, but it's the most common cause. I'd like to know how long it's contagious too. He doesn't have a fever or anything. I'm worried to take him to daycare because there are other smaller babies there. His brother has managed to stay symptom free so far. We're trying really hard to keep them apart. So far, so good.

    It sucks having sick babies!!
